Hey, amp. How have you been?

      x
I'm doing pretty well. Been pretty busy with work and married life. How have you been, Dixie?

      on 28 December 2014

      x
I'm doing okay, just enjoying the rest of the Christmas holiday.

So, did you have a look at some of the leaked information regarding the new Bond film?

      on 28 December 2014

      x
Yeah, I heard quite a bit about it and the film sounds promising. I'm not too keen on Dave Batista being cast as a henchman, but it might work if he doesn't speak.

      on 03 January 2015

I read that there was quite a few issues with the script, but we'll just have to see how the final product turns out.

I thought you might like to check out this extended version of the A View to A Kill theme: www.mi6-hq.com/sections/articles/music-duran-duran-a-view-to-a-kill-12-mix" target="_blank" class="link">http://www.mi6-hq.com/sections/articles/music-duran-duran-a-view-to-a-kill-12-mix?t=&s=&id=03788

Not sure if you have heard it before, but I thought it was pretty cool.

I hadn't read about any of that until you brought it to my attention. It sounds like the last third is a complete mess...

Oh, and the AVTAK 12 " is marvelous. Thanks for showing me that as well.

One of the few times I log on to VGChartz, and I was surprised to see that you're posting again. Welcome Back!

      x
Thanks Dixie. It's nice to see you. What's new and exciting?

      on 29 June 2014

      x
Just the same old stuff, but I have been selling some Bond artwork, though.

What do you think of Mario Kart 8? I'm probably in the minority, but I think the items are kind of unbalanced and I don't like how you can't hold two items at once anymore.

      on 29 June 2014

      x
I think that the items are very unbalanced. It's a fun game but don't expect to finish in 1st all of the time... The only holding one item thing would work if they were well balanced but alas.

Just thought I'd show you a Sean Connery picture I completed: http://dixiekong86.deviantart.com/art/Sean-Connery-368845216?q=gallery%3Adixiekong86&qo=0

I think that's probably my best attempt at drawing Connery, but I'll see what you think. Sorry if I'm bothering you with all these pictures recently, it's just that DeviantArt gets kind of boring.

So, are you going to buy Donkey Kong Country Returns on 3DS? I might get it, since I didn't enjoy the motion controls on the Wii version.

      x
I think that you're right. This is your best one so far. You seem to have nailed his features this time. BTW, you never bother me, Dixie. Keep sending the pics my way.

I won't be getting DKCR unless there is different content on it. I enjoyed the game but did not care for how the rolling control was handled...

      on 02 May 2013

      x
I enjoyed DKCR, but there was certain things that made it feel like a step backwards from the original DKC trilogy, such as not being able to control Diddy Kong. But the biggest problem was that rolling control, which is why I may get the 3DS version. I think there's supposed to be a new world added in the 3DS version, though.

Have you ever played James Bond 007 for the original Game Boy? I recently managed to get another copy of it, because my older copy doesn't work too well. It plays very much like a classic Zelda game, which is kind of cool.

      on 02 May 2013

      x
I can't say that I ever have played that game before. I do remember a James Bond game on the Commodore 64 that was rather good. Man, am I old.

Hey, amp. Got a couple of Timothy Dalton pics to show you. No Roger Moore this time, which is positively shocking, I know. Anyway, here's Licence To Kill:

      http://dixiekong86.deviantart.com/art/Roger-Moore-366059031?q=gallery%3Adixiekong86&qo=0

The Licence To Kill pic should probably be done soon, I've been juggling various art projects so it's taking a while to finish. Anyway, how have you been?

      x
Sheesh, Do you have a crush on Roger Moore? :p Sorry, you know that I had to say something.

I'm doing fine. Sadly, my job has been a lot busier on here recently. How have you been?

BTW, have you seen Skyfall yet and what did you think of it?

      on 19 April 2013

      x
Yeah, I guess you could say that. Regardless of what others say, I think Roger Moore is awesome. I am going to practice drawing other characters from Bond and classic films/TV series as well.

I've been doing okay, however, there has been some problems concerning the family that have made things kind of stressful, though.

No, I still haven't seen Skyfall yet. But like I said before, being a fan of the classics, it's not going to be something that I'll care for.

      on 19 April 2013

      x
I'm just messing with you. I also like Moore a lot. I just feel that he was let down by some of his scripts. BTW, you're drawing was once again very good.

I hope that things work out in your personal life. Mine has been a little more hectic than usual recently as well, but thankfully I have a great woman helping me through things. Once again , I hope that all is well and if you need anything ask.

I know what you're saying, bit I think that if you give it a chance that you will like it better than the last two knowing your preferences.

      on 22 April 2013

      x
I know you were only kidding, but I've always found Roger's charming and humorous nature appealing. He's kind of like Cary Grant, who's another favourite actor of mine.

Thank you for your kind words, and I certainly hope things will get better for you as well. In regards to Skyfall, I'll probably get around to watching it on YouTube eventually.

So when you mentioned about being busy here earlier, do you mean to say things have got that bad on this site? I know I don't visit here often, but I always thought VGChartz had a fairly decent community in comparison to some other gaming sites.

Hey, amp. Here's my For Your Eyes Only artwork: http://dixiekong86.deviantart.com/art/For-Your-Eyes-Only-357088939

So the next Bond project will be A View To A Ki-, uh, I mean Licence To Kill. Definitely no excuses this time. How have you been?

      x
Wow, that's really good. You have most every good moment in the movie in that artwork. I love that movie. My second favorite Bond film with Roger Moore. I'm doing pretty good. How about yourself?

      on 02 March 2013

      x
Thanks, amp. I'm doing okay. I've recently joined a local art group, so hopefully it will help me to gain recognition and sell some work.

I guess you watched the James Bond Oscar tribute. What did you think? Aside from Shirley Bassey performing Goldfinger, I thought the tribute was rather lackluster.

      on 02 March 2013

      x
I think that you hit the nail right on the head. It was great to see Shirley Bassey, but the rest was pretty pathetic. What a huge waste of an opportunity. Image if they got all of the Bond actors to show up? What an ovation that would have gotten.

I guess that they didn't have enough time and had to bring out Ted instead.

      on 02 March 2013

      x
There probably wasn't much chance that all the Bond actors would make an appearance, due to the fact of Connery and Brosnan not being in the best of terms with EON.

Many people were complaining about the tribute video. Just about any Bond fan could have done better. Roger Moore was underrepresented considering that he did seven films, and some more music by John Barry should have been featured. I also think the Nobody Does It Better or Bond 77 theme should have been featured to honour Marvin Hamlisch, seeing as he just recently passed away.

      on 02 March 2013

      x
Yeah, I know that those guys don't get along with EON and Lazenby isn't on their greeting card list either, but a guy can dream.

Besides for Shirley Bassey pretty much everything was horrible as you said. I was shocked and appalled that Nobody Does It Better wasn't featured because not only did Hamlisch recently pass as you said, but because most everyone ranks it as one of the top Bond theme songs.

To sum the tribute up in a word. Meh.

      x
Excellent job. I especially like the drawing with Bond and Scaramanga ready to duel. I'm a little surprised that Nick Nack isn't in it, but it's very well done.

I'm doing well. How have things been going with that possible art exhibit that you were telling me about?

Thanks, amp. Yeah, perhaps I'll do a redesign in the future that includes Nick Nack and some of the other elements in the film I didn't include. I think For Your Eyes Only will be my next project. *Groan* I know, yet another Roger Moore Bond. But I have some good reference pictures for it, plus it's one of my favourite Bond films. But afterwards I definitely need to make a pic based on a different Bond.

I'm doing okay. That art show is supposed to be next month, but I've been selling some smaller pictures in the meantime, though.

You're right, and I'm going to make a pic based on Licence To Kill after For Your Eyes Only, since I've already mentioned that was one I wanted to do before. Hey, amp. Here's the Goldfinger picture:

      http://dixiekong86.deviantart.com/#/d5mgolf

It's pretty simplistic, because even with some of the Bond books I own, I still don't have many good Goldfinger related pictures to refer to, oddly enough.

Anyway, I know I've said that I wanted to do a Licence To Kill pic, but instead I've decided that The Man With The Golden Gun will be my next project. I know you don't like that one much, but I personally don't mind it. Plus, I've got better pictures from that one that I can use for reference.

      x
Excellent! I think that you drew Connery much better this time.

It's not that I dislike The Man With The Golden Gun. There are just many Bond films that I like better. Scaramanga is actually one of the best villains in the series.

      on 28 November 2012

      x
Thanks, amp. Yeah, even before I got around to colouring Connery, I could see that it was an improvement from the previous drawing.

I actually think the The Man With The Golden Gun is a little underrated. My brother even says the same thing. As you mentioned, Scaramanga is one of the best villains in the series, there's nice locations, some cool action/stunts, great one-liners, and I even like the title song and soundtrack. I'm also ashamed to say that I'm one of those few people on earth that doesn't mind Sheriff J.W. Pepper. But then again, I do have a sort of campy sense of humour.

I see you've got the Wii U. How are you liking it so far?

      on 28 November 2012

      x
      I like J.W. as well...

The system itself is great. I hope that developers actually try unlike the many that didn't with the Wii. Nintendo Land is actually a very addictive game. It's kind of like the Wii Sports for the Wii U. That's the best way to explain it. I also have NSMB U and Zombi U. I'm only up to World 3 in the Mario game and I like the squirrel suit and the level design is nice, but so far the difficulty is pretty weak. I hope that it gets harder. Zombi U on the other hand, is really tough and uses the game pad effectively.

      on 28 November 2012

      x
The developers better not make lame excuses this time. Nintendo ended the Wii early because of that, so I sincerely hope that developers put forth some quality effort with the Wii U.

I'll eventually get around to buying the Wii U when the price goes down a little. NSMB U is the game I'm most interested in getting at the moment. But honestly, I don't play games as much as I used to. Recently, I've just been playing the Mega Man X Collection for the GameCube. Are you into any of the Mega Man games? They can be quite frustrating at times, but they're still enjoyable overall. I'm no pro at them, but I somehow manage to get by.

      on 28 November 2012

      x
You know what? I never actually got into Megaman. I forgot which one I tried out and it was great but at the time I just didn't have the patience for it. It's something that I could see enjoying more now that I'm older and enjoy a challenge.

Hey, Amp. Here's the artwork for Dr. No:

      http://dixiekong86.deviantart.com/#/d5huz76

It's a simple design, but I can always make a more intricate redesign in the future. I think I was more concerned about drawing Connery accurately than anything else. I don't know why, but I just find him a little difficult to draw. I'll probably work on another Connery pic next, perhaps Goldfinger, before I switch back to making another Moore pic. And I definitely should make a Dalton one as well. Licence To Kill would be my first choice.

      x
I can see what you're saying about Connery. He just doesn't look rugged enough or something. That's not to say that I could do anywhere as good. Dr. No looks great though. You really got him down. Overall, I do really like it. So, are you going to see Skyfall or will you wait until it comes to DVD to watch it?

      on 15 October 2012

      x
Yeah, I even did a couple of practice sketches of Connery, and I still had some trouble with the final work. Now when you say "not rugged enough" do you mean that he looks a little too young and pretty? Because when I showed the picture to someone else they other day, they said it was really nice, but that Connery looks rather young. I don't know, hopefully the next drawing of him will be better.

As for Skyfall, I'll probably just wait until it goes down in price before I purchase it on DVD. I don't really care for the newer Bond films as much as I do the older ones, so there's not much point for me to pay full price for a film that I'll only view every once in a while. In the meantime, I'll probably just watch it on YouTube or something.

Have you got the newest James Bond movie poster book yet? I bought a copy on Amazon, and it's pretty good. It certainly comes in handy for drawing Bond artwork.

      on 15 October 2012

      x
Yes. Too pretty would be a way of saying it. His face looks like it was chiseled out of granite and not molded out of clay. Know what I mean?

Have you read any of the hype on Skyfall? Many early reviews are claiming that it's the best Bond movie in the entire series. LOL I'll be happy if it's Craig's best one.

I've seen that poster book for sale online and have't purchased it yet. Currently I'm collecting all of the novels but maybe I should give it a look if it comes highly recommended.

      on 16 October 2012

      x
So you don't think the likeness is close at all? I know the drawing isn't perfect, but I don't think it's so far off where you can't tell who it resembles. I've never been good with the whole realism thing. As hard as I try, the drawings always come out looking a bit cartoony, but I guess that's just my style.

Yeah, I've read all sorts of news on Skyfall, but again, because I'm really not into these new Bond films much, I'm not going along with the hype. Every new Bond film that comes out is claimed to be the biggest and best one ever, it's pretty much been like that since the beginning.

Are you going to try out that new 007 Legends game? Personally, I think I just might skip it, since I haven't been all that impressed with Activision's Bond games. I just can't stand the fact that they play like Call of Duty games.

      on 16 October 2012

      x
No, that's not what I am saying. Maybe I just gave you the wrong impression by how I worded it. You can definitely tell that it's Connery, it's just that his features seem a little rounded and smooth looking. Trust me, I think that you did a great job.

I know that every few Bonds gets hyped like Skyfall has. I just find it amusing. I remember when GoldenEye was the greatest Bond movie ever.

I am not going to lie to you. I will be buying it no matter what. I bought Quantum of Solace and we know how bad that was. I actually like the new GoldenEye quite a bit. Yes, it copies the CoD style of leveling up and controls, but I think that the game play is more balanced and takes more skill. You have to level up really high to get the much better weapons where with CoD you seem to automatically win if you have been playing online for five more hours than the other player. Also, I love the mines.

      on 17 October 2012

      x
Oh, okay. So I got the likeness fine, but I just need to harden his facial features a little more next time. It could be that my colouring is too intense, giving him a rather smooth/perfect look. You can't tell from the scanned image, but the colouring on the original artwork is very smooth and glossy, almost as if I used paint instead of coloured crayons. In fact, I often get people who think I used paints or markers to colour my work. When I tell them it's actually coloured pencils, they seem so surprised, and then say "But how come the picture looks so glossy?" So yeah, it could be that my colouring is making Connery look too perfect.

I really want to like 007 Legends, but after being disappointed with Quantum of Solace and the new GoldenEye, I think I just might skip it. I'm going to sound like a miserable old retro gamer, but I don't want a single player mode to be short, scripted, and play like Call of Duty. Perhaps I'm the minority, but I simply just don't buy an FPS game for the multiplayer. There should be both a good single and multiplayer mode, at least that's the way it was years ago. And the Call of Duty controls just frustrate me. You have to press a certain button to dash, and whenever you do that, you can't shoot or reload. Remember in the original GoldenEye, how Bond could carry a ton of weapons and still be able run, shoot, and reload, as well as do all sorts of crazy things when you had the cheat codes on? Call me old fashioned, but that's just the way I prefer the Bond games to play.

Another gripe I have about 007 Legends, is that it's a game that's supposed to be a tribute to the classic Bond films, but it only has Craig and none of the previous Bond actors. I think it would have been cool if you could play as all the Bonds specific to each mission, and that the missions would actually take place during the time period of the original film, not a modernized version of it.

      on 17 October 2012

      x
I think that you're right. The colors might be a little a little too intense. Like I said, it looks really good, but maybe he looks a little too good. He's a good looking guy, but not a pretty boy.

I actually thought that the single player in the new GoldenEye was much better than the stuff that's been coming out in other FPS games. Have you played CoD? It's like they give you five easy hours to sleep walk through before you go online. I saw a thing on Youtube showing a guy get through the first level of Modern Warfare 2 without firing a bullet. I do agree that the single player of GE is no where as good as the original though. The original is probably the best FPS ever made. One thing that sucked about the new GoldenEye - it had insanely difficult time trials for each level and beating them got you nothing. It should have been like the original where you unlocked different codes. Oh well...

I agree that I would love to play as Moore in Moonraker, Connery in Goldfinger, etc. but that actually is because EON won't allow them to use the likeness of the other Bonds. I saw an article on GoldenEye Wii where they were asked why Brosnan wasn't available as an unlockable and they said that EON told them that there is only one James Bond and now he is portrayed by Daniel Craig. Pretty lame, huh? I guess that they modernized it because it wouldn't make sense if Daniel Crag was in an era that was before he was born.

      on 18 October 2012

      x
I think you're the first one to say that my colouring is too smooth and intense. But like I said before, realism has never been one of my strengths. I'm mostly into cartooning, so I guess it sort of shows in my Bond artwork. But I'll keep practising.

I'll be honest, I'm not much of an FPS gamer. The only FPS games that I've really enjoyed are the some of the Bond ones, Perfect Dark, and the TimeSplitters games. So whenever I play the more recent FPS games, I sort of find them to be tedious. The older FPS games had more simple controls and gave you more freedom. As I said with the new GoldenEye, you have Call of Duty style controls where you need to press a certain button to be able to run faster, and then you can't even fire or reload your gun during that time. You're limited to how many guns you can carry, there's the reload blur, and the constant lag, and ugh... Let's just say I didn't find the experience of the new GoldenEye as fun as the old one.

Yeah, that is really lame. It's almost like EON wants people to forget about the previous Bond actors. You know, I remember reading Roger Moore saying that EA was going to make a Moonraker game with his likeness and voice talent, but EA unfortunately lost the rights to the Bond games, so it never happened. I really enjoyed EA's From Russia With Love game, so it's disappointing that they didn't get to make any other games based on the classic Bond films. With GoldenEye, they should have took the same N64 game and simply update the graphics, controls, add bots and online for multiplayer etc. I think that would have been the better thing to do, instead of making a whole new modernized version.

Hey, Amp, how's everything going? I got the artwork for The Spy Who Loved Me finished. It would have been up sooner, but I only just took it in to the copying shop to get it scanned yesterday. While the design is not as intricate as the Moonraker one, it was still a lot of work regardless. The Scan came out a little better than Moonraker as well. Anyway, here it is:

Wow, that is great! What I really love about it is that you have not missed a single image from the film that pops into my mind when I think of it. I absolutely adore TSWLM. It's Roger's best and one of the best Bond films ever made in my opinion.

      on 06 September 2012

      x
Thanks, Amp. The Liparus supertanker is about the only element I didn't include, but other than that, I've pretty much included most of the important scenes. Yeah, The Spy Who Loved Me is also my favourite Roger Moore Bond, although I like all of his other Bond films too.

I would like to draw some artwork for Dr. No next, but it will be kind of difficult, since I find Sean Connery hard to draw for some reason.

      on 06 September 2012

      x
Dr. No would also be good with Honey Rider, the falls, the beach, and Dr. No himself. To be honest, I would love to see you do this for any Bond movie since I like them all on some level (except for The World Is Not Enough).

      on 06 September 2012

I like the tropical setting in Dr. No, which is one of the reasons why I would like to take it on as my next project. Like The Spy Who Loved Me, I'm going to try to create designs that are more simple, since I've been busy with various art projects lately. An owner of a local art shop would like me to get some work together for display, so I have to be able to get all these pictures done fairly quickly.

      on 06 September 2012

      x
Sounds like a lot of work, What kind of work does the art shop owner want you to do? I

      on 06 September 2012

      x
Well, the shop does deal with a lot of nature related artwork, so I'm currently working on some smaller pictures of birds for quick projects to take in. Cartoons or pop-culture artwork is the larger projects the owner would also like me to do. They liked the James Bond pictures I made, but I was told that I need to complete some more pieces of art from that same genre before I'm able to have it displayed.

      on 07 September 2012

      x
Good luck with all of that. You are really talented and I wish you all the success in the world.

Thank you, Amp. Oh, by the way, I wanted to give you a link to this really cool James Bond art site:

      illustrated007.blogspot.ca/" target="_blank" class="link">http://illustrated007.blogspot.ca/

I'm not sure if you've seen the site, but I came across it recently, and it has all sorts of really nice James Bond related artwork for posters, books, comics, collectibles, and more.

      on 07 September 2012

      x
No, I haven't come across that site before. I'm going to check it out. Already digging the old book covers.

      on 08 September 2012

      x
Did you see the Diamonds Are Forever poster with George Lazenby on it? Pretty cool.

      on 08 September 2012

      x
Yeah, I've seen that George Lazenby Diamonds Are Forever poster. Could you imagine if he really did star in that movie? It would be interesting. You should check out the A View To A Kill section, there's some pretty cool artwork for posters and books there. Also check out The Spy Who Loved Me section too. There's this really cool artwork for a puzzle that has Roger Moore giving Jaws a roundhouse kick to the face! It kind of reminds me of Rareware's old Killer Instinct artwork for some reason.

That James Bond art site is great. I can spend quite a bit of time looking at all the different artwork there.

The George Lazenby Diamonds Are Forever poster was interesting, but here's a poster for On Her Majesty's Secret Service with Sean Connery that I found on Deviant Art:

I'm convinced that OHMSS starring Connery would have been the greatest film ever made and that poster proves it. Also, I think that DAF would have been a completly different movie if Lazenby returned. It would have been an epic revenge flick instead of a pseudo comedy. I am going to browse that site some more later. It's got a lot of great stuff to look at.

      on 10 September 2012

      x
It isn't easy to fill in the shoes of the very popular Sean Connery, and considering his lack of acting experience, I think Lazenby did a pretty good job.

You know, since Roger Moore was considered to originally play Bond, and Ian Fleming apparently wanted Christopher Lee to play the part of Dr. No, I think that would have been kind of interesting to see as well. It would also be a cool idea for a fan-made poster, too.

      on 10 September 2012

      x
Yes, I thought that Lazenby did a great job when you look at it objectively. Yes, I did know that Moore was considered and that Lee was up for Dr. No. Did you know that Lee is Ian Fleming's cousin? I'm sure that you probably did.

      on 11 September 2012

      x
Yeah, I knew Christopher Lee was Ian Fleming's cousin. Although I like The Saint series and Sean Connery, I still think it would have been kind of cool to see Roger Moore and Christopher Lee in Dr. No.

Someone and I were recently discussing about whether Roger Moore's portrayal of Bond would have been more serious if he did play in Dr. No first. While there may not have been as much campy humour (earlier on at least), I don't think Moore's portrayal of Bond would have been too much different from the way he played Simon Templar in The Saint series. That's pretty much how he played Bond when he finally got the role anyway.

      on 11 September 2012

      x
I think that if Roger Moore was in Dr. No that he would be THE James Bond like Connery is, but unfortunately Mr. Connery probably wouldn't have had much of a career. I also think that Moore probably would have started out less campy but probably would have started to go more in that direction eventually since it is one of his strengths.

      on 12 September 2012

      x
I agree. Perhaps people would be also more kind to Moore if he was the first James Bond. But both Sean Connery and Roger Moore will always be the quintessential James Bonds to me. And to be fair, the series started going in the more campy direction in Connery's later Bond films, so it wasn't something that just started with the Moore era.

But Moore was awesome with the campy humour. You could put him in the most absurd situations, and he could keep his character and make it all look normal.

Here's the link to my Moonraker picture:

      http://dixiekong86.deviantart.com/#/d58a7ho

I know that I said I may post the picture on this site, but I'm not too happy with the quality of the scanned image. It's a bit washed-out compared to the original artwork. I wasn't even sure if I should post it on my Deviant Art account, but decided to do so anyway for the sake of having some variety other than just my comic.

      x
Wow, that's really good. I like how you put several different scenes in it. The artwork is great. While I don't like Moonraker that much, it really works well for something like this. Do you plan on doing other "posters"? I think that an On Her Majesty's Secret Service one would be marvelous with all of the skiing scenes, Piz Gloria, Blofeld, etc. But that's up to you since you are the one drawing them and it's a lot of work. By the way, how long did it take you to do this?

      on 23 July 2012

      x
That's great work DK! I agree with amp, do OHMSS!

      on 23 July 2012

      x
Thanks Amp and TruckOSaurus, I appreciate the feedback. I just wish that the quality of the scan would have turned out better.

Yeah, On Her Majesty's Secret Service would be a good idea for another poster project. I've been wanting to do one for Dr. No, Licence to Kill, as well as some of the other Roger Moore ones. I'm currently working on artwork for The Spy Who Loved Me, so when I've completed that, I'll give some thought as to what I should do for the next project.

      on 23 July 2012

TSWLM would also be great with Liparus, the Lotus, and everything else. I'm looking forward to it.

It turns out that we were both wrong about the number of guys Bond fights during that elevator scene in Quantum Of Solace. Bond actually fights off three guys, just look closely near the beginning of this video.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_s_0QHVJGwQ&feature=relmfu

      x
I had to rewind it twice and look really to see that you are right. As badly as that scene was shot, it is easy to see why we were both wrong. The director really stunk up the joint in many of the action scenes.

      on 12 July 2012

      x
Yeah, the fact that a couple of Bond experts like us couldn't tell how many guys were in that scene pretty much shows how bad the filming was. And that's just one of my big gripes with Quantum Of Solace, along with that it just strays too far from the classic cinematic Bond. I actually watched Quantum of Solace again the other day, my second time viewing it since it was first released on DVD, and my opinion of it remains the same. While Die another Day was disappointing, Quantum Of Solace was just upsetting.

And hey, if you like Quantum Of Solace, then that's fine, I can't argue with your opinion. It's just like how I enjoy Moonraker and A View To A Kill, while you don't really care too much for them. But I just personally enjoy the charm, humour, and style of the Connery/Moore Bonds.

I've been wanting to ask if you're into classic British spy shows like The Saint, The Persuaders, The Avengers, Danger Man, or The Prisoner? I have all these on DVD as well as some other British cult spy shows from the 1960s and 1970s. I actually think they're pretty cool.

      on 12 July 2012

      x
Wow, do you own the entire series? If so, that's quite a collection. Yes, I like all of the shows that you mentioned. I also like The Man From UNCLE, Get Smart, and I Spy. What other shows do you own the DVDs from?

Do you like the 60's spy movies like Derek Flint, Matt Helm, Harry Palmer, Modesty Blaise, etc.?

      on 13 July 2012

      x
Yes, I own the complete series of all those shows I mentioned, plus others. I've got The Champions, Randall And Hopkirk Deceased, The New Avengers (1970s series), The Protectors, The Baron, The Adventurer, and Strange Report. I started collecting The Saint series when I was around 16 or 17, and then my collection just began to slowly grow from there. But my movie collecting has slowed down in the last few years. I've just been purchasing the Columbo DVD sets recently.

Now oddly enough, I've actually never seen any of the shows or movies you mentioned, but I have heard of them. I'm mostly into the older British cult spy shows, but I should definitely check out the ones you mentioned. But some of these series are quite costly to buy on DVD. I remember paying a little over sixty dollars for the first box set of The Saint series, and it only had six episodes! But it all depends on the company who makes these DVD sets. I've ordered box sets online from Amazon UK, and they're far better and even cheaper overall, than the sets I find at some of the movie stores I go to.

      on 13 July 2012

      x
You know what's funny? Neither of us mentioned which is actually really good unlike that Tom Cruise series. I'll be honest, I haven't heard of any of the series that you mentioned other than The New Avengers and the Protectors. I really should start looking into all of these old series and start collecting them myself eventually. Maybe I'll pick up The Prisoner since I'm sure that it'd probably be relatively affordable since it was so short. Have you ever heard the song The Prisoner by Iron Maiden? You would probably get a kick out of it even if you don't like heavy metal since you are a fan of the series. I Spy and Get Smart (along with The Man From UNCLE) are both very good. Just pretend that those horrible new movies didn't exist, just like The Avengers...

Right now I actually have been collecting and reading the continuation Bond novels. I have read Colonel Sun, James Bond The Authorized Biography of 007, James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me (novelization), James Bond and Moonraker (once again a novelization), License Renewed, For Special Services, Icebreaker, Role of Honor, Nobody Lives Forever, No Deals, Mr. Bond, and Scorpius. They aren't as good as Fleming's, but are still entertaining (some more than others). I plan on collecting them all, for better or worse.

By the way, I don't know if you're aware but they are now selling the original James Bond comic strips in omnibus form at a reasonable price on Amazon. Also, if you aren't aware of it already, Modesty Blaise originally was a comic strip and a very good one (kind of a female James Bond) that you could look into since I know that you do comics of your own.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I haven't logged in for a little bit.

      on 16 July 2012

      x
And I didn't mention Mission Impossible again...

      on 16 July 2012

      x
Well, some of those shows I mentioned are not very well known to many, so it's understandable if you've never heard of them. They are British cult shows after all. I enjoy them all, but my most favourites are The Saint, Danger Man, The Persuaders, The Prisoner, and The Avengers. I forgot to mention that I also have the Peter Gunn series on DVD too. If you have a multi-regional DVD player, then it's probably better to buy these series from Amazon UK. They have all these shows I mentioned plus others all done by a company called Network. The reasons why I like the DVD sets by Network the best, is because they usually provide the complete series in one box set, the quality is great and there are some cool extra features, and it's just cheaper overall than buying all these individual sets like I was doing before.

I have the soundtrack for The Prisoner series, but I haven't heard that song you mentioned by Iron Maiden. I'll have to look into that. As for the James Bond novels, I do have some of the Ian Fleming ones and a few from James Gardner that I got from a used book store. I haven't read any of the James Bond comic strips, but that is something that I should definitely check that out as well.

Do you own any of the James Bond figures from Sideshow Collectibles? They've made various figures of the Bond actors, villains, and women form particular Bond films. I have all of the 12 inch scale figures as well as the limited 1/4 scale figures of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan. Unfortunately, Sideshow Collectibles no longer makes James Bond figures anymore. It's too bad, since I would have loved them to make a figure of Max Zorin.
