While they are kidnapped, you continue helping them by letting them still borrow the initial money, but help EVEN FURTHER by also paying the ransom for their kidnapping. You are now currently out the initial money you borrowed them...

Eric, you do realize you are arguing against every single other person in here, regardless of whether they are affiliated left, center, or right? That generally should be a warning sign that your thought process is pretty far fetched. Look, I'm not saying I necessarily agree with us having troops there in the first place. But once we decided to have them there, it's kinda a BS move to just...

In your situation, what the US did was lend money to the person, then like 3 days later, took it all back and said sorry, you actually need to deal with this on your own. I don't think you're following. I'm not saying what would be...

So what other allies should also be helping out with this Kurd ordeal? I get the issue of us backing out after we were already there, but surely the US isn't the only Ally of the Kurds. Are these other nations providing soldiers as well? Or are they just complaining that we are no longer providing our soldiers but providing none of their own? ...

What do you think should be done about climate change?

in General Discussion on 14 October 2019

Woah woah woah, you just added substantial additional items to answer my question. I'm not doubting changes in rainfall, population density increases, etc. These were completely and totally irrelevant to my question though. I read through the 1st page of this thread, and one of the concerns was how much farm land would be lost because of the rise in sea levels. That just....doesn't make...

What do you think should be done about climate change?

in General Discussion on 12 October 2019

Why will higher sea levels (for instance 6-8m) cause less farm food to be available? I'm not aware of very much farm land that is only 6-8m above sea level. I guess it will cause people to move inland, which could in effect lead to farm land being sold to develop new properties for these cities. I think the farming issue has more to just do with what these increased temps (and the relevant...

To be clear, the fights occurring are not a direct result of our actions. It's a direct result of the people choosing to kill the other people. That is it. Does us pulling out have an indirect result of additional people dying? That may well be true. But the question STILL stands. At what point are we obligated to help? If we would have never been there in the 1st place would we have...

My question still stands. At what point does somebody become inhumane for not expecting the US to be involved in foreign matters? Following the news or not, this type of thing is on the news virtually 100% of the time over the last 50 years. Somewhere in the world, some horrible inhumane thing is occurring. So...at what point does the US become obligated to help these people or be seen...

I will say, while I realize it's very "anti capitalist" to have government owned businesses. I think if 12% of everybody's money was going into stocks, and thus virtually every US Citizen had ownership in companies...people's opinions of the stock market (and public companies) making obscene amounts of money would VASTLY change. While they absolutely have the ability to invest in these...

If you didn't change the payout at all from what SS currently has and had, there would be trillions upon trillions of dollars in their "trust" had it been invested in the market. No, it wouldn't still just run out. It would absolutely last as long as the world economy is a thing. ...

Changing investments isn't the only solution, it's just the best in my opinion. The majority of other solutions are effectively further tax increases (or benefit cuts) in order to finally get the system to balance. While these would likely work, it just makes the eventual payout of social security an even worse "investment" than it already is. ...
