Did you ever start watching Gotham? As great as it was, I had to stop after 4 episodes and vowed I would wait until it is released on Netflix. I just can't do the ads...

      x
Are there alot? I still have to see it. Did not realize it was so good.

Love your Christmas avatar! So with all the crappy, cold weather we've been having, I've finally been making big progress on my beating every Mario game goal . Only problem I ran into is I bought a new TV and the Super Nintendo lags super bad on it :/

      x
New tech cannot handle old tech!

Weather has not been too bad here, just a little cold. But this time last year only had a bit of snow as well.

I hear you are the person to ask on thoughts regarding the first episode of Gotham?
I thought it seemed very promising, and the guy acting as Penguin was absolutely phenominal.

      x
Hmmm, not exactly sure why I'd be the authority on Gotham, but I'm flattered that my opinion is valued, lol.

I did see it though - hard to say so far but it was good enough that I'll keep watching for now. And I agree that Penguin was very good. Commissioner Gordon was good as well.

You can thank Spurge for that. He said he hadn't watched it, and suggested you. I really wanted to talk about it with somebody...none of my roommates have seen it yet either :/

      on 29 September 2014

      x
Yeah, I figured it was probably Spurge. He and I talk TV sometimes.

I haven't seen tonight's Gotham yet but I have it recorded. I'll check it out tomorrow.

I also didn't catch it on tv. I think they are available on Fox website after a day or two, so I'll certainly be watching it!

Did you watch Gotham premier on Fox?

      x
No I missed it. But it is on my radar when my work rotation is over. Ask archbrix!

I was pretty impressed with it! Had to watch it on Fox website though, cause I also missed it on TV.

So get this. A while back (like 2 years), I asked you about a failed SMART test on my dad's computer. Low and behold, the hard drive finally completely crashed on us.

Well, with our luck, my dad's hard drive at his office was acting up as well, and that crashed within weeks of the same time. Lets take the story about 2 weeks later, and another guy at my dad's office just had his hard drive crash too. I ordered these 2 computers at the same time...I guess it was cheap parts.

3 danged hard drives all crashing in like a months time. 2 of the computers were only 2 years old, and the other probably 4. Just ridiculous.

Regardless, my dad has since learned his lesson, and he now has me build his computers with much more reliable parts instead of ordering the cheap ones.

      x
Yeah I recall our convo. Hard drives can fail but when so many fail it does smell of bad parts... It may not have been the hard drives too. Maybe the PSU was really bad and had a massive ripple which damaged other parts.

In terms of hard drives and backup storage, I've started using FreeNAS and its awesome. I built a dedicated machine with over 12TB of storage which uses ZFS and allows me to plug in any spare drives I have to add to my total storage at any time. If a drive fails, I just unplug it without any data loss...

Something to consider if you're tired of dealing with multiple external hard drives and them failing.

Dang that is a lot of school. I'd thought about going that far before so I could be a teacher but it just isn't happening at this stage in my life. Maybe 15 years from now.

Honestly, it's overwhelming. I didn't do a masters so I was straight in at the deep end. Figured if I took a break I'd likely never go back to studying. Although I would have liked to do a biology/forensics masters since it's only one year.. maybe in the future :3

I can't even think one year ahead right now, let alone 15 years! What are you doing instead?

      on 21 September 2014

      x
Well, I did an internship last winter at an accounting firm, and absolutely loved it to death (I really had no clue what to expect going into it). So I just finished my Bachelors this summer and start full time at the same accounting firm in a week and a half now! At the same time I've been taking a series of exams to be further certified in my industry...which I will hopefully have all done at the end of November.
The goal is I stay there for several years, and figure out how I want to continue my career from there...whether it be staying there, going towards private industries, or whatever other possibilities may present themselves.
And don't worry about the not being able to look a year ahead! When I was a Statistics major, I couldn't think ahead either. It really took until I found a job (internship) I loved that things really started falling in place...I'm sure you will have the same luck sooner rather than later!
On another completely random note, to top off the start of my whole career, I've really been pondering the idea of writing a book lately. It seems incredibly lame, but I always seem to have so many random financial thoughts in my head that I would love to be able to express in a book to other people. I know there are already a trillion financial books out there, but I think it would be so cool to have my thoughts expressed to the world via a book.

So I got a call from my job and I get to start 4 weeks early! How awesome is that. Only 2 weeks and I'll finally be full time after my great internship last winter :)

      x
Great news! Internships are the way to go. Get's you the experience you need.

It feels good to know you have a stable career after all the hard work you put forth. Doesn't it?

3-4 times in a day...that's weak! You need to increase that to about 10...then your risk for a heart attack will go up!
