Wow, I also thought the iPhone 5 was underwhelming but you made a colossal point by saying it's just the disappointing OS.

It really is... I don't hate iOS6 but it's a pretty "meh" update overall. But the hardware for the iPhone 5? That's actually crazy-impressive. LTE, larger screen, lighter phone, thinner package, longer battery life, and performance on par with phones almost 50% larger in size with twice as many cores and 50% more clock speed.

    How is that NOT impressive?

    on 22 September 2012

Agree. iPhone 6 has a ton of untapped potential, I think that with the right firmware it could do wonders.

You know, now that watchman was brought up it makes me wonder other countries interpretations of that book. I find most Americans are on "Team Rorschach) which i feel can't have been Moore's own political ideology. Though I suppose that's why Watchmen is so good. He's able to present a situation where all philosophies have faults (which they all do.) and not make one side come out like a raging strawman arguement. Well I suppose except fascism... but I mean, you'd have to be a genius to figure out how to make fascism look good.

That's a good point. I never even considered that other countries may have different views on the characters in Watchmen. I'm going to have to think about that more.

Studying other countries superheroes is fascinating. I've been finding other superheroes for different countries because between the media i knew it was pretty much just the United states, Japan, China, Canada and the UK with more then a handful. Pretty much every Brazilian hero i've read about either got his power from aliens, or from corrupt government experiments/became a batman type vigilante because of corrupt government officials. Makes Brazil seem pretty unflattering government wise. Meanwhile Italy seems to have a lot of anti-heroes, but not in the punisher sense. More in the, Criminal that only targets criminals sense, and isn't afraid use violent means to achieve it. They even seem to have a couple who start out as regular criminals and then reform.

Then we have Icelandic superheroes which are just basically vikings in our history

    on 02 June 2012

Good to know, didn't get there yet, Just got done with Serbia, They had a sueprhero team called "Generation Tesla" who were murder victims who were brought back to life and given superpowers by Nikola Telsa!

    on 02 June 2012

Yes! I LOVE foreign superheroes! You can tell a lot about a culture by what they view as heroic. Origin stories in particular are very telling about how a society views itself and its government. Fascinating stuff.

So what is your next book series you plan on reading?

Right now I'm reading through the comics series Locke & Key. It's pretty decent but I'm only a few issues into it.

I actually stepped foot inside a comic book shop yesterday. I was mainly looking at board games while there but then decided to ask the owner if there were any newer comics that were sort of like Cowboy Bebop or Archer type humor. He then suggested Wormwood Gentleman Corpse and I just finished the first volume. I thought it was pretty bad ass (a little expensive considering I dropped 20 on it) but I enjoyed it. I will probably pick up the other issues. He also suggest Chew (I believe that is what it is called), but they didn't have the first issue (sold out) so I will maybe check it out next time I go back to the shop. Anyways, I thought about you and your comic when finally reading comics again myself.

I have yet to read either Chew or Wormwood, though I've had Chew recommended to me several times. I need to go check it out.

While the first couple seasons of DS9 were boring (I liked season 3). I enjoy them just because it shows the characters at their beginnings. DS9's main strength to me is character development. I can't think of a television or movie that develops so many characters and puts them in serious "major changes" that change their personalities, in such a believable way. Nearly every character changes in a distinct way to the point where you just need a couple conversations to see how the characters act and react to know what season it is.

Well Except Rom. Rom's personality change is quite jarring.

I compare that to The Next Generation where i only have a vague sense of what season it is by the uniforms and whether or not Riker is bearded. I know Star Trek didn't have a character driven focus but you'd think all the things they've done would change their characters more.

I can see that. Personally, I really enjoyed DS9 by the end. But I still never want to go back and watch the first few seasons. They were agony to get through the first time. If we were comparing just the second half of DS9, it might be my favorite Trek ever but I can't dismiss those first seasons where it took 60+ episodes before anything of note really happened on the station.

    on 13 December 2011

Hey i can understand that, hey some people DESPISE DS9 because of Episodes like In the Pale Moonlight and in general how DS9 essentially has so many characters with huge flaws, and groups like Section 31 that are so anti-utopian. Or even offense at the federation building warships.

    on 13 December 2011

Those were some of my favorite parts of the series. I loved how DS9 showed the seedy underbelly of the Federation and focused on some of its flaws.

    on 13 December 2011

Me too, but for a lot of people Star Trek isn't just a show but a way of life. There are people who base their whole political perspective on a Star Trek type society. Somewhat ignoring no doubt, that to get their earth had to suffer a war a thousand times worse then world war 2 that sent earth into a dark age leading to suitcase nukes and biogenic warfare.

Hey, really glad to see you're posting again. We're gonna need all the help we can get.

The rampant stupidity on these forums is even worse than before and that's saying something. Looks like I have a lot of bitch-slapping in my future.

    on 12 December 2011

Honestly I've been trying to start several worthwhile, well thought-out threads and not a single one has yet to reach even a hundred posts. Meanwhile, every last fanboy flamebait thread easily hits the marker and then some.

Not quite sure what to do at this point as sheer moderation doesn't help fix the community. It's pretty demotivating.

    on 12 December 2011

I can see that. I already avoid about 75% of the threads because it's like "where do I start?" There's so much stupidity flowing through them that you can't even worm your way in with a rational thought.

    on 13 December 2011

I really wish the Hot Topics section included the name of the thread creator so I could know which ones to avoid. That being said, I make pretty awesome threads where people actually discuss videogames and interests. You should check them out.

Machina and Torillian are awesome but the administration as a whole seems very ineffective. At this point I'm just waiting until the site re-design and then trying to start fresh.

I don't see myself writing for VGC again. I sent a few emails off about a year ago to see if they were interested in having me write something and never received a response. After that, I'm not going to bust my ass so I can provide free content to the site and get them more hits. Not responding to email is a massive pet peeve of mine.
