The Witcher 2 looks like its going to be the best RPG ever!

in PC Discussion on 01 January 2011

PullusPardus said: Great idea!  IMO , if you die , its REALLY gameover , which is a new way to play RPGS. It is a fun way to play a game, but hardly 'new'.  Diablo II has a hardcore mode to where if you die your character is deleted.  It's funny to watch someone get into a bind in that game, cause they will frantically try to exit the server and save their character instead...

Dota 2 announced for PC and Mac, coming 2011, brings huge innovations

in PC Discussion on 15 October 2010

zarx said: lestatdark said: Well, it will be under the HAVOX physics engine and an improved SOURCE engine as well, so I bet that they can achieve some good gameplay innovations like physics and distance affecting ranged attackers like Traxxex or Nevermore. I can see some pretty nifty applications to a physics engine, like Sniper's Scattershot doing more damage from an above-enemy...

Dota 2 announced for PC and Mac, coming 2011, brings huge innovations

in PC Discussion on 15 October 2010

"Valve's approach to Dota 2 is unusual in that the gameplay itself is remaining almost entirely untouched." "This approach means that Dota 2 basically is DotA-Allstars with new technology." So why should I play it as opposed to something like league of legends that is trying to improve the gameplay.  You may criticize LoL for being "DOTA like", but it is the game that has been trying to...

    "Casual games" changed my life

in Gaming Discussion on 18 July 2010

It is tough to define casual games.  I would be more likely to point out a casual gamer.  One that plays a few select games, maybe quite a bit, but doesn't branch out or particularly want to be challenged.  Someone who mainly play sports games is a good example.  Also, someone who only likes to play FPS titles like COD or Halo....

Are the motion controls the real draw for the Wii?

in Gaming Discussion on 13 July 2010

WilliamWatts said: Hmm interesting responses. I wonder if this could be the source of the 'birdman' talk from Malstrom. Essentially other consoles copying the concept of the motion controls without truly replicating the reason why they were truly popular. Not to be a Sony or MS hater, but it is a trend for hardware releases mid-lifecycle to fail.  Definitely for a concept...

Sigh.   So lets see. I come across as childish...

Trophies and achievements - how do you like them?

in Gaming Discussion on 12 July 2010

Trophies and achievements are harmless IMO.  I don't like them, so I don't pay attention to them.  It was, however, helpful in tracking my friends Demon's Souls progress by looking at which bosses he had defeated. I would be more interested in trophies and achievements, but I play PC, Wii, and PS3 along with various older systems.  What is the point of comparing...

Are the motion controls the real draw for the Wii?

in Gaming Discussion on 12 July 2010

Like what other posters have already said, the draw is motion controls, price and accessibility. After that however, it is all about the games.  I have found several games on the Wii that I really had fun with such as the Trama Center games. ...

I just finished a game - The Official Thread.

in Gaming Discussion on 06 May 2010

Metroid (NES) (not on the VC)So I just finished Metroid. For an NES game at the time, it is top notch. I wouldn't even think detailed objects like the metroids could be made on the NES. It is apparent there was an artistic mind at work in this game.Even for the amazing gameplay and graphics, I do have a couple frustrating gripe with the game. One thing is that you can easily miss very...
