PS3 sees increased support from HD-DVD fans

in Gaming Discussion on 10 January 2007

With Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer, Phillips, and JVC primarily supporting the Blu-Ray format, all these electronic manufacturer's will be competiting for the few who are switching from HD-DVD to Blu-ray. Remember as time passes and the second and third generation players come out, the PS3 will be one of the worst Blu-Ray players on the market. Gains to the PS3 format will be negligible in...

    360 Numbers don't add up!

in Sales Discussion on 09 January 2007

1.) Monty and others who believe that the 360 sales should be higher; do you think that vgcharts should guess, with no sources what the actual sales are? You keep referring to NPD #'s which haven't been released yet to get your U.S. totals. Obviously the XBOX 360's sales should be higher as we see the same total we saw yesterday for all three consoles. I would rather have a website that is...

Is this game over for Sony?

in Sales Discussion on 25 January 2007
Erik Aston said: I think if Nintendo keep both their traditional franchises coming (and they're packing the first year FULL of their traditional franchises: sequels in the works for 8 of GC's top 10 best selling games) and their new "casual" IPs coming, including ones which take advantage of the Wii as fully as Nintendogs took advantage of DS, the greater variety on Wii will propel...

Is this game over for Sony?

in Sales Discussion on 25 January 2007

There is a key difference between the handheld and console market. The handheld market is for gaming on the go, while you are sitting on the train or waiting in line etc. It is designed for simple games that can be started up and played quickly. The DS have more creative original games, where teh PSP has sequals to console games. I personally would not want to play Portable Ops for an hour...
Innovalias said: Some idiot(s) posting previously, as an attempt to show their distaste for anyone who poses a simple question, threw mud at Nintendo "fanboys." It amazes me that people lie to themselves so harshly. Here's the thing: SALES NUMBERS AND TRENDS DON'T LIE!!! Use the DS/PsP market shares to pattern the Wii/Ps3 sales, if you'd like. You might be the most...
Erik Aston said: Sony's in danger of a snowball effect happening. Its the same thing which happened to Nintendo ten years ago. Someone commented about Ninty's "seal of quality," and the practices they had back then... Its true, Nintendo strictly limited the amount of games that third parties could release... 5 games a year was the policy.. But lets put that in perspective......

Yes other consoles can cut prices, but you have to remember that the PS3 is selling faster than the XBOX 360 already. It all comes down to 1 question. If you could buy a console, would you want the one that has strong support among U.S. developers, or the console with strong support amound U.S. and Japanese developers? Unless you are really hyped about the new Microsoft IP's (like me...

Decent hardware sales (mainly for multimedia use) but poor software sales? I think a lot of people are overstating the negatives of Sony's launch. They are probably close to 2 million in sales by now, which is amazing considering the initial launch price, and terrible launch games. Resistance was made great by the terrible alternatives, a game like that would have been lost among the XBOX 360's superior shooters. I guarantee that all 3 consoles experience price...

I don't doubt that the PSP games are better as everyone claims so far, but are they more portable? When I first played the psp many of the title were PS2 type titles. Even if the games were completely original, they still played like a console game. Here's a line from IGN's Portable Ops review "Kojima Productions is releasing Portable Ops, a true successor to the gameplay from the console...
