http://blogs.ft.com/techblog/2010/02/nintendo-warns-of-wii-shortages-through-march/ Shortages of the Nintendo Wii console will continue until the end of March in the US after the company was caught by surprise by December’s record sales.   ...

So do people actually still think NSMB Wii isn't pushing hardware?

in Nintendo Discussion, last active on on 05 January 2010

I remember people were saying before NSMB Wii launched that it wouldn't push hardware and would only sell to people who bought galaxy, I also remember people saying it would fizzle out fast and wouldn't keep momentum, so what do you guys think now?  ...

Malstrom: Game Industry tries to justify corruption

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 10 December 2009

http://seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/2009/12/07/email-game-industry-tries-to-justify-corruption/ I tend to think that someone feels a little guilty which is why this story was written. The story is a great read with many funny quotes. “We donated our hotel bathrobe and slippers to charity.” Yes, it is because poor people are in desperate need of hotel bathrobes and slippers. How strange...

EA Might Release Even Fewer Games

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 02 December 2009

The beginning of the end?   http://kotaku.com/5416716/ea-might-release-even-fewer-games   When Electronic Arts sacked 1500 employees recently, it also binned a number of titles in production at the studio. Not that they're done trimming the number of games the company releases.Speaking at the Reuters Global Media Summit earlier today in New York, EA boss John Riccitiello said that...

Malstrom: Game Media is indeed the Industry’s Lapdog

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 21 November 2009

http://seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/2009/11/21/email-game-media-is-indeed-the-industrys-lapdog/ Hi Sean,I found this interesting: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/going-gold/6790-You-Get-What-You-Pay-ForThe author correctly sees the core implosion but what is his solution? We should accept “new payment models” from the industry so that it may make more...

Malstrom: Nintendo’s Shield & Defense = “Sustained” Disruption?

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 25 November 2009

An interesting thought occurred to me going over your “Nintendo’s Shield” article. In summary of it, Nintendo’s shield is mainly what sets them apart of MS and Sony. This circulates around their values, goals, and driving forces being very different. As an example, Sony and MS will try to push the “motion idea” onto their current consumer base in the same...

CVG loves NSMB Single player, says multiplayer is frustrating

in Nintendo Discussion, last active on on 05 November 2009

Before we talk about that though, let's make one thing clear: NSMBW is absolutely brilliant in single-player. While trailers and on-stage demonstrations focused on the game's new multiplayer element, this is a single-player Mario game in exactly the same vein as its classic predecessors, only with the option to slap three more players on the screen. ***  That was our other major relief -...

    Price Pressures (editorial)

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 18 October 2009

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/price-pressures-editorial The question of pricing for videogames is a perennial conversation piece within the industry. That's hardly surprising, given the variation we've seen over the decades - from cassette games for home computers selling for two or three pounds in the early eighties through to the latter days of the Nintendo 64, when cartridge price...

Sony Wand and NATAL, minimum of success?

in Sales Discussion, last active on on 14 October 2009

The likelihood is that neither the wand or Natal will achieve anywhere near the success of the Wii, since they are addons well after the fact So really, how are Sony and MS expecting them to perform, at what point will they consider them a success?  And if they do fail what will be the response, we know that if they succeed in MS and Sony's eyes, they'll likely become standard in future...

Uncharted 2 vs. Mario and Sonic Winter olympics

in Sales Discussion, last active on on 05 October 2009

So which game do you think will sell more overall?  Both games release around the same time. First Uncharted did 2.58 million, while the first Mario and Sonic did 7.16 on Wii and 4.43 on the DS. My guess is that Mario and Sonic does better overall, Uncharted may possibly have better initial sales, but M&S will have better legs...

Pros:  Its a New Monkey Island, good voice acting, pretty good script, popculture references and series in jokes were nice, music was pleasant, nice cliffhanger ending Cons: Controls and camera detracted from the experience, creepy french doctor, difficulty scaled down from previous games   Overall I have to say this was a good return for the series, but I have to say I was...
