That freaking song killed me

Such a wonderful character.  She's that friend everyone had in high school who you kind of avoided in social situations because they would do or say something embarrassing at the worst possible moment.  In my case, I had a friend who would suddenly start talking about professional wrestling in front of girls.  That, and he'd constantly quote South Park.  Ugh.

Also, there are some interesting differences with the manga.  First, the character designs in the anime seem to be more realistic, which makes the characters look older.  I don't have a problem with that but I do think it made Aru's elementary school faux pas look a bit ... weird.

Second, the anime is more active than the manga.  The manga has a slower pace, with a lot of Bocchi agonizing over her failures and being cute in general.  Kind of interesting to see them take this direction.

Lastly, I think it's worth adding that in the fan translated version of the manga, Nako always calls Aru "loser," which is why all the memes say that.  From what I can gather, the real meaning of what she calls Aru is somewhere between that and "unfortunate."  It's like more of an insult but not as harsh as "loser."  That's just what I've gleaned from conversations between people who might or might not know what they're talking about, though.

I don't know how to trim posts anymore so I'm leaving my old post up there, gomen gomen.

Aru is really amusing to me, she might be favorite girl despite being part of the non-blonde half of the cast. Love how she keeps making dumb mistakes and tries to play them off like she's not making dumb mistakes. I was laughing out loud when she was pretending the hanger in her shirt was a fashion statement.

The manga differences are interesting, is this a 4-koma originally or a normal weekly manga? I guess I have a tough time telling age differences in anime anyway. I forgot the characters were in middle school because I feel like I see high school characters with similar designs in other anime. The ninja girl looks about as developed as Karen in Kinmoza.

From what little Japanese I took for work, I thought "zannen desu ne" was like "oh that's a shame", and so I assumed they were reflecting that same feeling about her bad luck. Loser seems kinda mean, but if its intended to be an light insult it seems more fitting. I always dislike when manga translators use ill-fitting words though. I remember Mangastream would always throw in random curse words when a character was expressing any mild frustration. I don't think I've seen so many random f-bombs as I did from that talking pig in Seven Deadly Sins.
