that doesn't necessarily mean J.J. Abrams disagrees with Rian Johnson's vission of Luke (although I would hope it does). It could also be because of something like Leia's actor dying, and they originally planned to have her play an important role at the end. But now they need a different character to fill that spot. |
That's it right there. The biggest issue!!! But riddled with a plethora of other issues, just like you said!!!
Also, bringing back Palpatine is not exciting for me. Unless it is a flashback or somehow a dark force ghost. Bringing him back just to get slaughtered by Rey would undo everything the original trilogy (well, even the prequels) established.
