I think the issue is there even when you're creating an entirely new post and not quoting anyone, but like I said, I don't really have any way to measure it so I could be just imagining it.
I noticed there's an extra space after a quotation so if you don't erase it when answering, you'll end up with an extra space in your post. It's not a huge issue but it's definitely noticeable (your mileage may vary, but it's there).
