And now we're stuck with Sony and all their increasingly anti-consumer policies.

Well you can ask yourself what would be worse, the launch XB1 and where it may have lead or the PS4 platform we have now?

The PS4 platform we have now but this is a superficial thought experiment and nothing more. The fact of the matter is the PS4 platform we've had and still have is increasingly anti-consumer and regularly associated with some negative maneuvers in the industry.

Not if one comes out ahead of the other and feels arrogant enough as a result.

That's something none of us can control unless we all get together and agree to buy certain consoles so all 3 brands have equal sales. Who's going to give up the brand they love for the overall good of the group? That also will more than likely lead to worse hardware and worse games because why try to do the best you can as a gaming company if you know your only going to sell a certain amount of consoles and games regardless? At that point they honestly might as well all join and become one big company, and that would be the most anti consumer situation possible.

We don't have to arrange our purchasing agreements to such an extent. We can provide feedback in other ways. In this case, blast a company for when they start to shit on the consumer and have them suffer backlash to show them that their lead is not as concrete as they think. Don't let them think they can get away with abducting third-party accounts for example and Microsoft blasting them for this policy would do good.

I don't see Sony reversing course either. They're the big dog and now they screw the consumer over from time to time.

I need Microsoft to hit Sony where it hurts any chance it gets.

If they want to they can do nothing based on their market position, but the smart thing to do would be to allow something that's just enough to fix the specific problem without going overboard so gamers can't legitimately just say why not go all the way and allow cross play. Epic might even owe PS a favor. They did "accidentally" flip the switch and allow cross play for a short period of time, which caused PS a bunch of headaches already.

You need? Did you make a bet? When someone like MS does what they did with PUBG, then pretends like it's no big deal and bashes someone like PS for doing something similar, it just makes people who understand this think of them as hypocrites. In this situation like I mentioned before, you can even say PS isn't as bad because they didn't completely lock down Fortnite. All I can say is just hope that this whole gen has taught XB a lesson and that they come out swinging next gen, and that PS doesn't make the same mistake they did with PS3 and MS made with XB1.

Here is a clip from an article from Rolling Stone. If PS had never helped Brendan Greene he may never have ended up where he and PUBG are today.

"I was watching the H1Z1 dev stream and they kept mentioning Battle Royale and I was like, "That's great, wanna throw me some money?'" laughs Greene. "John Smedley [then president of Sony Online] followed me, and I got a DM at like 2am that said 'We should talk.' So the next day, I give him a call, and that Thursday they flew me out to San Diego to talk about adding Battle Royale as a game mode to H1Z1. I have a lot to thank them for because they didn't have to give me that chance. They could've just taken the idea and ran with it."
King of the Kill launched in January 2015, and about a year later, he received an email from Bluehole producer Changhan Kim, who wanted to work with Greene on an original Battle Royale IP.
"[Kim] outlined his idea for a Battle Royale game, which was something he always wanted to make, and he had a lot of the same ideas that I had for a standalone game. I had gotten offers from other people before, but they weren’t the same kind of vision that I had," says Greene. "I flew out [to South Korea], met with the team and looked at their concepts, and I was convinced that this was the right place to do this ."

At its core, this industry is a business and without a contract or written agreement, no one owes anyone anything.

Was it scummy for Microsoft to deny PUBG on PS4? Absolutely and it would be fair game to blast Microsoft for that maneuver. Just the same, it's completely fair game to blast Sony for hijacking people's EG accounts.

At the end of the day, what I want is for these companies to compete and blast one another and try their very best to one-up one another all the while benefiting the consumer instead of burning the consumer in the process.

I was just trying to point out that PS helped in the battle royale/PUBG scenario early on and didn't try to lock it down. If they had tried to lock it down it would be somewhat anti consumer, contract or not.

Otherwise I pretty much agree with everything you said. Unfortunately the way the system as it exists now is the best we've come up with so far. It's a lot better than most as well. Hopefully it can continue to progress in a civil manner for the good of everyone. Until then though, sometimes it's just going to suck, but that dip will always at some point be balanced out by a peak. Just gotta stay as positive as possible and not get dragged down in the negative times.
