The question isn't whether they were released the same week, it's whether they were announced the same day.  And even if they were, you're now contrasting hardware and software.  I don't think what you've listed is a parallel at all.

The point was more a "videogame industry can still thrive despite bigger things happening at the same time".

In the age of Twitter and Facebook, no single news story will ever dominate all others, especially when it comes to tech. Word of mouth will be good enough, as will Sony's own advertising of the product.
