Only buy a 4k tv if
1. You sit game 4k ultra on PC
2. Have a 4k bluray player.
3. Can afford to spend extra $5 - 10 on 4k bluray.
4. Sit 6 or so feet away from a 40" plus TV, but even still, points 1 to 3 should be apple hear.
There is no need for a 4k tv if you do not do not do any of the above.
Above all, prepare for DVD'S, 720p content (amazon prime) and some 1080i coded bluray 's (of which there are many) to take a hit in picture quality.
In short not worth it, not even for "future proofing".
