It should help sales, it's additional publicity aimed directly at the userbase. It just depends how much attention (either good or bad) it gains and given the two examples mentioned in the OP - price. For me though, it has little influence.

It does feel like twitter. Guess to make the most out of Miiverse you need to follow people and just browse your activity feed.
