2001 - The year Sega discontinued the Dreamcast and left the console hardware market. That's the worst year in gaming. It was an end of an era. If the Golden Age of Gaming was in the arcade then the Silver Age died with the Dreamcast.
It may be slightly longer ago than a decade, but gaming hasn't been the same since.
