I went to gamestop as well, but could not post on my phone last night while at work. Was first on the list to eventually get called to get a pre-order for the Wii U basic. Also they told me they have about 4400 stores in the States and on average each got about 10 pre-order spots the first time around! This one in particular got 11.

So at least we know that about 44,000 Wii U's will be sold day one. I bet Walmart got the same amount. We could probably make a guestimate of how many will sell day one with the first batch of pre-orders. Anyone want to try?

Yay! Guestimates!!!

I think that Walmart actually gets more systems than that, of what I've heard at least... Day One pre-orders should easily have hit 100k in the US alone, right?

Gamestop got 44,000 at least. Walmart getting more pre-orders than a gaming store? Lets just say that they do, I work for them so not sure what I can say, but I will find out next time I work. But lets just say that each of there stores get 10 as well, plus EB Games, Play and Trade, Bestbuy, Target. Lets find out how many stores in total and do guestimates! I got walmart and Gamestop. Someone else get some. And we will go from there. At least we will have guestimates for those stores. Not sure who else got pre-orders. Can you pre-order on Amazon?

There are 1763 target stores in the US according to Taget Corp investore overview, so if we are saying 10 avg per store we end up with 17,630 units just for target.

Best Buy has 1055 "big box" stores (so doesn't include the Besy Buy mobile), after the 50 they closed, so that is 10,550.

Gamestop has 4434, which include EB Games, according to their corporate information so that is 44340 units.

Shopko has 135 stores so that is 1350.

Pamida has 181 stores so that is 1810.

Costco has 592 stores so that is 5920.

I'm sure a person who work at WalMart can get an exact number but there are around 4000 WalMarts in the the US, so that is another 40000

111500 just for those physical stores. (EDIT: For got to add target in.)

There are also a multitude of Mom-and-Pop stores, regional department stores and online sites

The best thing would base it on what they did for the Wii, which was under supplied, they shiped 1.2 million units in the US and that was done in two or three shipments. We can probally expect about the same since that was a pretty heath launch even through they had demand issues. So I would guess they will ship about 900,000 units for the Novement 17th. And judging from the preorder frenzy I'm expecting about a 95% sell through. So I'm guesing we will see about 1.5 million units in the US for 2012.

I'm being conservative on this because of the rumored manufacturing issues with the controllers, which I think is the reason they are not selling the controller sepratly in the US at the this point so they can maximize the number of consoles shiped with out having to worry about shiping enough pads as well.
