I agree with you that the film is not humorless, in fact Bond telling Le Chiffre "I've got a little itch, down there. Would you mind?" was one of the funniest line in a Bond movie ever.

You did touch on the product placement a little but I just wanted to say that the airport scene is ridiculous in how obvious they make it (especially Smirnoff vodka and Sony TVs).

Finally, I need your help amp!!! Is Mathis a bad guy or not? I thought he was after Le Chiffre told James "Your friend Mathis is really my friend Mathis" but in Quantum of Solace, they seem to get along just fine.

In Quantum Of Solace it was all revealed that Mathis is not a bad guy at all (Vesper set Bond up, but was also behind White not killing him - she was to give him the money).  Unfortunately, something horrible happens to Mathis.  Poor guy, always getting the short end of the stick.

So why is Le Chiffre under the impression that Mathis is his friend? I always figured it was Mathis who told Le Chiffre about the tell.

I always just though that he was lying about Mathis being his friend just because bad guys lie...  Also, I assumed that Le Chiffre was such a good poker player that he picked up on Bond seeing the tell and did a fake tell.
