I disagree. There are plenty of incredible games on all platforms that sell bad, despite their quality. A fine example would be King's Bounty. I hardly ever notice anyone talking about it. Sure Skyrim might be superb (I personally haven't played it), but it had tremendous hype too.

there is also the case of a "Niche" game of course, everyone knows Skyrim and Battlefield.
