A comparision with last month's NPD (adjusted for the difference in weeks) gives this:

Wii ...... +33%
DS ......... -7%
PS2 ...... +4%
PSP .... +11%
X360 .... +8%
PS3 .. +108%
GBA ....... -1%

Yep..except their is one outlyer anybody could have guessed, because of PS3 price cut.

If you had just guessed +100% on PS3 sales, due to Sony's public comments that sales doubled at top retailers after the cut, and taken the rest of that list, you would have beat VgChartz handily..

That is what I mean when I say a good educated guesser can beat Vgchartz..

Whoah...!

Sharky ,moderate yourself or they will ban you .

As for the Amazon sales maybe there is another explanation .There are many SKU out there that we doesnt count ,if the PS3 is 2 and the 360 Premium is 12 then maybe the 360 is still slighty outselling the PS3 as the Elite may be 24 and the Core 98 while the PS3 only has the 80 Gb at 110 ......just an example Once you add the sales of the 3 SKu of the 360 and the 2 of the PS3 the 360 may be selling more even if the PS3 is ahead in the main SKU .

Actually, with Wii being overtracked in Europe (Germany, Italy), PS3 being undertracked (same), and the X360 staying the same in those regions (atleast closer), the actual numbers will go up slightly, but not too bad - it's just that the proportioned region's numbers have changed. I always felt the Wii was being overtracked in Europe, and I was right.

VERY VERY good numbers for the Wii, and very good numbers for the X360 - if the X360 was undertracked by 30%, then that means it selling around 75k+ per week now in the US.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

The Wii and the 360 is overtracked, the PS3 is just fine in Germany?¿?

Edit: Whoops, the last 2 weeks it seemed to be undertracked, at least if you believe what the head of sony said at GC. (Since starter pack, selling on Wii levels, 8k a week)

Man, get over yourself, seriously.

Anybody could have guessed the PS3. That's why VGChartz did. So you wouldn't have beaten VGChartz at all with that round +100% "prediction": you would have missed by 4% where VGChartz missed by 3.

The real outliers are the Wii, that had a 33% increase in shipments, and the 360 that didn't drop at all and stayed above the PS3, when everyone and their mothers expected it not to. Nobody, no analist, no fansite, no nothing predicted these two things. Would you have guessed them? Based on what, your whishful thinking? Then please do so, and consistently, not once - then people might care.

IMHO this month was definitely worse for VGChartz than last month was. Stating otherwise... sounds a lot like spin to me, but I'm fine with that. These are still decent numbers for what they are, and no random dude is about to over predict them consistently, based on no inside info at all.

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

If you look at last months NPD results and break them down into weeks. (Last month was 5 weeks) and look at this months Wii sales (this month was 4 weeks) it shows that Wii sales increased >> 39% week-to-week << from last month. That IMO is to large to just be an anomaly. I think the Wii gained such a large amount this month due to the new tracking of online retailers.

I think that the Wii got alot more numbers this month because it may be bought online alot more (due to its constraint retail wise). Because of that when NPD stopped estimating the Wii online and got the direct numbers we saw Wii surge, also note the 360 increased 7% this month also. Likely an indication also of now counting those online numbers.

Here is some other information collected from other places:

Some LTDs:

Pokemon DP: 2,973,100 (missing Pearl for July)
Guitar Hero 2 (360): 958,000
Mario Party 8: 917,000
Wii Play: 1,691,000

Some worldwide data from GAF for Wii:

Japan: 335,307
Other: 360,000

US: 425,000
Canada: 36,419

(1.16 million in 4 weeks)

And some charts:

This chart does not include EU numbers for July.

Well, USA and Canada are different.

i wish there was a state by state breakdown, that be cool to see.

Amazon set us up the bomb!

Maybe people will finally realize that Amazon is a poor indicator for everything except how well stuff is selling on amazon. There is a reason real tracking takes many different stores in many different locations.

 Nope.

360 has atleast 3 skus, so even with PS3 at 1 or in the top 5 it was hard to figure out if that was enough to out do 3 skus.
