Forums - Gaming Discussion - Manhunt 2...a test?

Hopefully all the controversy around it will boost sales, however, as others have said, Manhunt is a niche title and gory enough to be too much even for some hardcore gamers. A game like No More Heroes may be a better way to see how mature games do on the Wii.

Well, from the preview on IGN, it seems that R* is giving enough attention to the game to make it really good for the Wi, so I really hope that it will have good sales.

no idea how many it'll sell... but i'd imagine they'd certainly be happy if it sells 400k, global. like i read in a post elsewhere in some countries (Germany) it'll be of bigger interest. i don't know what it is about Germany, but once in a while you read about these uber-disgusting cannibal stories out of Germany. two of my German friends kind of go along with it too, making fun of it, so must be somehow in their culture. i know it's more of a stereotype, but any Germans here have something to say about it?

so... 200k US lifetime? there is a very slight possibility that I, a "casual gamer", might pick it up, not to extensively play and finish the campaign, but just to find out just how disgusting it is with the motion controls, especially if it gets good reviews. that justifies a rental but i don't like paying like 18% of the value of a piece of software on a rental, since i never ever finish games in a mere week. it's like overpriced insurance for guarding against the possibility that you might not like it. it's also cool to show it to your friends just to let them see how gross it is... i'd put the chance of me purchasing it at 5%.

the Wii is an epidemic.

oh, guess i didn't comment on "why on the Wii?"

um, because the Rockstar people are so sick they want you to immerse in the whacking and decapitating experience?  instead of hitting buttons.

as a lead-in to mature titles on the Wii?  an afterthought of an afterthought.  if it's GTA they have in mind, they know full well GTA will sell regardless of the platform.  c'mon.

Very true.

And I don´t think No More Heroes will sell that much. The artstyle and some of its features will scare many people.

Yes, but it's a violent shooter and the same general market type. Markets aren't divided by rating

do you stab people in the balls in red steel ?

Red Steal was about as violent as clipping your toenails.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

While I am not interested in this game, I wonder if Manhunt fans will go and buy a Wii just to play the version with the most immersive simulation of murder available. I would say THAT is a good test.

Is $300 worth it to these fans to simulate the clipping of testicles or decapitation of people?

I find it strange that out of all the new consoles Rockstar have chosen to release it on the Wii.

Could this possibly be a test to see if this kind of game will sell on the Wii before they consider whether to release GTA or not?

I've heard comments about the Wii not being powerful enough but that doesn't seem to stop other developers releasing their games on all consoles.

for the PS2, it was most likely already in developement for the PS2 long before porting to the Wii, maybe just a way to test out the new hardware and check out the market on the Wii.... though this is an EXTREME way to go to test the waters.

Yeah. I doubt it is a test for that. I think it is more a test of what I mentioned eariler. Or, at least, that would be a more interesting test.
