Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Hideki Kamiya disgusted at Capcom's gimping Okami for the Wii

The credits are beautiful and you're still getting a gimped game. Coupled with the lazy Wii pointer acuracy controls and other problems this port is a joke.

And yes, I do blame the port, because it was poorly done and extremely unprofessional. We expect better from Capcom! It seemed the only reviewer to be trusted on this game all along was Nintendo Power who gave it a 7.5 out of 10 and recommended you buy the PS2 version instead. We were too blinded by high expectations to see that they were right.

Well thanks for this thread as I was thinking of picking this up for the Wii.

Now seeing as how it got great scores and has glitches, freezing, portions of the ending cut out, etc... I think it is safe to assume we can not trust any reviews these days. Didn't this game get 9-9.5 ratings?

I had to restart a 10 rated game in GTA IV because it locked up on me... about 15 or so hours in. Just locks up as the game is loading up. Now how does GTA IV get a 10? That is a pretty big issue. Not to mention it takes forever to load up to begin with.

Reviews are mean to give us all the info we need in order to make a purchase, not a half assed review based on 20 minutes of play. They leave so much out because many times they are paid to do so.

Very disappointed. :(

Is it still worth picking up for the PS2? I would have preferred 16x9 Widescreen but PS2 version does not have that option correct?

I'm not getting any lock-ups on my copy of Okami.  I hadn't heard about them until this rant from Onimusha.  In fact, after a google search, I see a couple of threads about it where the majority of people are saying "it works fine' with just a few saying 'it locks up'.  It sounds like for the people it does lock up for, it locks up all the time, andeveryone else is fine.  It sounds to me like a problem with their Wiis, not with the game... but I'm no expert.  Just know that these lockups aren't typical.  Disclaimer: I assume the same is with the supposed GTA4 lockups which I also haven't experienced (although in that case, it's because I don't own a PS3/360). Its probably just a random, isolated event and has no relation to the game's software.

Also, I love the controls, and think they work wonderfully.  I wouldn't call them cheap or lazy at all, and have had no problems with them at any point in the game.  They do require some dexterity, but we're gamers, right?  We should have decent twitch muscles

Please, PLEASE do NOT feed the trolls.

"Coupled with the lazy Wii pointer acuracy controls"

Since some state it isn't lazy, just harder, I'm chalking that up to subjective opinion.

"I do blame the port"

The port did not design itself, nor did it make choices about its design. Blame PEOPLE.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

blaming the port is blaming the people who made it! How are they different? What, do you think I'm holding my copy of Okami at arms length and waving a finger at it? Do you think I'm sending hate letters to Amaterasu herself?

1. The port isn't the people that made it. It's a bunch of code. Of course that's different.

2. You're bashing the game, when you may just have a bad copy, that's what I mean.

I just hope this is fixed in a re-release.

Re-releasing? It's never been "unreleased", it's never sold of out it's initial stock. Capcom still has a crapload of PS2 Okami games in their warehouse.

You can still buy PS2 Okami from the Capcom store.

Also i'd guess the reason it was "cut out" is because when they got the programming code over they didn't get the whole game. Only something like... I want to say 66%-70% of the assets for the game and as such had to remake a lot of the stuff in the game and rework some stuff. It's likely the "Omori" didn't make it over in the assets settings and it's something they just missed or didn't deem important.

Also, if all that was lost is the old "The narrator is someone you know!" reveal... honestly that's way overused a twist anyway.
