Well there were some early supply issues.  Also, installs are mandatory on PS4, robs physical copies of some of their utilitarian value.

Plus digital percentage is quickly rising. I wouldn't be surprised if the average digital game sale percentage is sitting at around 30% on PS4 Xbox. It's also the cause of many people to jump the gun and claim a game to failure when physical sales data is released. People just can't understand that they can't compare physical sales to previous years on a 1:1 comparison.

That said I think Nintendo digital game sales are a lot lot lower than on Xbox One and Playstation.

Ugh, I can't find the quote/source, but I believe EA and Ubisoft said earlier this year that digital ratios for games is 30% (or 40%, something high), and it was like 20% last year. I'll look for it more, but the point is digital downloads are increasing very, very fast.

Nintendo is indeed on the low side. BotW did 3% digitally on Switch, and their games tend to do like 10% digitally (I believe the big exception was Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but only in Japan). This can be attributed to their stubbornness on not using HDDs and shipping systems with a mere 32 GB storage in 2017...

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

How it works is that GAF opens an NPD prediction thread and people guess how many units each platform sold that month. A few weeks later, the OP will release the rankings based on how close people's predictions are to the real thing. This was how we got a general idea of how much the PS4 and XB1 sold in February NPD.

The closest prediction to the actual numbers.

but how do they know who wins when we dont get actual numbers?

Either the OP has access or knows someone who has access to the actual numbers, I don't know which one. However, NPD is extremely anal about numbers being leaked, but ranking people's predictions is okay since that doesn't count as a leak.

Did they do that yet for this month?

Not yet. If February NPD is any indication, the prediction rankings will be up by the end of this month.

Do you mind addressing where the 3% Switch digital sales figures comes from?

Nintendo said BotW sold 925k (retail + digital) on Switch, NPD said 900k (retail). 925k - 900k = 25k digital (from Nintendo). Math here, math there 25k ÷ 925k = 0.027 or 2.7% rounded to 3%.

Here's EA talking about digital downloads, if anyone cares (they say digital downloads were 32% last year) http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/32-of-ea-unit-sales-in-2016-were-digital/0178293

Where's the source for horizon selling 800k digital copies with over 50% of the sales being digital? cause i'm seeing a few people saying it might have beaten BotW, unless they are using the wrong numbers, BotW sold 1.38mil.

It comes from the digital PS4s.

But nah. HZD is above 1 million, near 1.1 mil at most. Pretty sure we would've heard something if it outsold Zelda with digital sales.

They're definitely lower, but the difference isn't too big. Four years ago, digital 3DS games were already at 11%.

Oh i see, i saw on GAF that extrapolating the digitals sales to 40% it would mean horizon would be 1.075.000 units, i really doubt it's even 40%, i think it's much more to 20~30%.

To be in a draw with BotW it would need 735k digital sales which means 53% of total sales being digital, this is like one whole level above tbone's nuts predictions lmao.

Press release doens't say digital and only references NPD numbers.  That means the 925k IS the NPD figure.   NPD only repeated greater than 900k.

Meaning we still don't know digital sales yet.

It quite clearly says its including digital. Read it again.

The press release says the 1.3 mil total includes digital. If the 925k is from NPD, then it would've sold 0% digitally, seeing as the Wii U's 460k adds to the 1.3 mil.

Unless I'm misunderstanding and it sold 1.3 mil retail only.
