What the **** are you smoking? O.o

Shut up man.

Baseless logic. You claim that 50mil 3ds's are owned by 18mil people because...???

It doesn't make any type of sense. Im srry, but I cant understand such a post >_>

I think the 3DS userbase is a lot smaller than 50 million, considering all the people who keep buying different editions of the same handheld. I guess its something like 18 million.

Absolutely ludicrous statement based on virtually no evidence, not to mention a transparent attempt at downplaying the success of the 3DS.

My neighbours have 3-4 DS and 3DS, one for each of the younges. You could say it would only one active userbase because they buy just one copy of the game. But the total bought is above the average for 3 people.

Anyway I agree 35M is more likely than 18M.

I'm actually surprised so many people pay a lot of money to rebuy the same system again with a few upgrades. Nintendo makes a lot of money off their hardcore fans. Makes you wonder if they'll design their next one with revisions in mind. Instead of just putting out the best console they can to begin with.

Playstation:
Models - 44
Revisions - 3
Designs - 6
Colors - 5

Playstation 2:
Models - 87
Revisions - 15
Designs - 4
Colors - 26

Playstation Portable:
Models - ?
Revisions - 21+
Designs - 5
Colors - 17+

Playstation 3:
Models - 45+
Revisions - 14+
Designs - 3
Colors - 23+

PS Vita:
Models - ?
Revisions - 7+
Designs - 3
Colors - 10

Despite all those stats the rebuy rate on handhelds is much higher than consoles.  I'm pretty sure the psp could be included aswell especially in japan.

Programmed Obsolescence at play... launch a system, then make it bigger, then bigger, then more powerfull... Have some fools buy all of them. While they could at least already launched it the bigger possible.

Agree with that but they are nothing compared to apple and minor upgrades they provide so frequently.  Sickens me how many people upgrade or buy a new one so soon!  It's a good business model to be fair.

It won't be that low, but 35m wouldn't surprise me as far as unique active console owners.

I agree with this.  No way is it as low as 18 million but my guess is 30-35m unique gamers.  The total software for the platform leads me to believe this too.

As they say, a new sucker is born everyday... I also can't understand why would anyone buy one iPhone every 6 months or any of the yearly iterations games (buy once or twice a gen ok, but all of them? Crazy thing)...

But as a company you sell what the customer wants to buy and if they don't want you convince them with marketing or launch a different product... so yes sometimes the fault is on the customer.

I buy Iphones every year. Ipads, too. Not really a sucker per se. Just have nothing good to spend my money on. Heck, I buy games I don't ever plan on playing and bought a Wii U that I played for a week and never turned on again. I make good money, it's my money, I'll do wtf I want with it. The "suckers" are those that buy into being a judgemental prick because it's the "in thing" atm IMO.

Yeah it's like my friends that buy fifa annually.  I bought Fifa 09, Fifa 15 and I'll likely not but another until at least Fifa 19.
