Forums - Sales Discussion - Race is on - 360 vrs PS3 (holiday '07)

Blue dragon was the 360's biggest hit so far in Japan. It moved consoles for them last year. Lost Odyssey will be bigger but yes the 360 will never even come close to matching the PS3 over there. But if they end the generation with say 1.5 million sold then they made serious moves for the future of xbox over there. Europe is a dead heat between the PS3 and xbox 360. Stop acting like the PS3 is doing so much better because for a solid 2 weeks they hit 100k on the price cut.

The question remains, can the PS3 do well without winning America? Can the 360 do well with 80% of their business from America? America is the biggest market with the biggest spenders, they cant survive with out it even if they have Spain and France and Saudia Arabia

R&C will sell a lot during holidays, same goes with Uncharted. I think every single PS3 owner will pick up or rent each of these games some day. We won't know if Drake's Fortune flopped until next week so all opinions based on partly launch seems premature.

Unreal will help too. Definitely.

Well explain why the 360 doesn't have similar sales numbers for Europe like America? It's because America is the only market they care about and with that mind set the 360 will end up like the Xbox.

I'll take the case!!!

Its still 2 million ahead of PS3 and there are no signs that the PS3 is closing the gap significantly.

Agree. PS3 is pretty close to X360 weekly sale right now. Wait for really big games. Not new IP's. GT, MGS4 and FFXIII will close the gap really fast.

well MS is doing nothing to increase it ether. That's why MS needs the other markets so badly so if Sony hits something big. They will be too far behind to catch up.

I think Microsoft is doing Ok. Remember, they have only to gain as they are trying to get marketshare they never ever had. Sony on the other hand is in danger of losing a lot of market share they used to have. I believe between the ps3 and 350 it will be pretty even. PS3 will have way more Japan and 360 will have way more America. In each respective place there is a 4-1 gap.

What matters to MS, is that Sony is around 7.5m behind - which is more units than they have sold to date.

Sony is unlikely to pull back too much of the gap (overall) this Xmas - and what happens in Jan '08 (when all sales slow post-Xmas) is anyones guess at this stage.

All three consoles have some pretty strong titles waiting in the wings - although at this stage, Sony should have a stronger selection than MS.

A single title (such as GTA) could completely change the landscape of this generation if either of the consoles ends up with a significant advantage over the other (and for now, its looking like the 360 will get a better GTA experience).

MS also has the opportunity to relaunch a "RRoD" free console - at a lower price point - leading to yet another wave of "repurchasing". If they can do this, it will be a significant boost.

I think the PS3 doesn't stand much of a chance.
