Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bad experiences with gamestop?

I hate gamestop with a passion, first off, I hate how they feel the need to plaster stickers all over games games and my local gamestop puts them right on the artwork instead of the plastic. second off they are overpriced and they rip off people trading in games. I actually had a gamestop employee tell me that they were working on a port of halo 3 to the PS3 lol. I buy new games now either from ebay or amazon and all used from ebay

This!  Sweet lord, this!!  New, used, stolen--NOTHING can stop an EB/Gamestop empoyee from putting stickers on your favorite game.  Every now and then, you can catch new copies coming in and you can buy them while they're still in shrink wrap.  Other than that, you're getting more stickers than a 12-year old's notebook.

-and with that post, my "12-year old" quota for the month is done!!

I personally hate how they only order enough copies to fill pre-orders. Then when they do get a few extras in later down the road, they will try and always forcibly persuade you into buying used for $5 less. I know why they do it (maximize profit) but it is just annoying because you have to say "no" a minimum of five times before they will sell you the new one. Also dislike buying a "new" game that has been opened (and likely taken home and played by one of the employees). I really like that Bioware and a few other companies are starting to offer free DLC for new copy purchases. I would personally love to see Gamestop go out of business, but then I would be stuck buying games online as the area I live does not have any other true game stores.

I hate almost every Gamestop I go to. Almost every employee tries to make it seem like they know more about gaming than me(LOLOL) and try to tell me what to buy. This one guy talked to me for about 30 minutes trying to convince me that Aion was better than WoW when I didn't mention the two games...

They try and sell me used games as "New".

They ALWAYS try to convince me to buy an "Edge Card" or whatever its called.

Ask me if I have Modern Warfare and tell me how its the best FPS ever, every time I buy a shooting game.

I buy a game, come home all giddy ready to play it, then I open the case.... why do I see Condemned in my Valkyria Chronicles case which is labeled "New"?

I have about 37 bad experiences I can share, but that would take waaay too long.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

^^^Yeah. I don't know if the guys get a commission or something, but the way they push their Pre-orders, used games, discount subscriptions, strategy guides (WHO IN THE HELL STILL BUYS THESE THINGS!?) and accessories make me feel like I'm being date raped. "No" means "no"!

Unless I am getting a game on launch day from them, I will never shop there. They try to sell you open-used games for the "new" price. and when you explain it to them they just say "it has a new sticker on it."

and I want to stab them.

Only bad thing I can say about mine is they forget about pre-order bonuses often so I have to remind them...I also like that they open the case before I buy it so it's the right game...

Former something....

Yeah the new Gamestop near my house hardly ever gives me my pre-order bonuses. I was supposed to get 5 dollars off Bayonetta, and the manager just stares at me like i'm stupid or something.

I will go in and buy a game for the PS3, and they will pester me to get it for the 360 instead. That pissed me off to no end.

so happy we dont have GameStop in the UK, sounds like a crap place

My poor old mum got me a gift card for the place, so I had to go spend $20 there. I went in to buy a 2000 Wii points card so I could download Mega Man 9. I asked for the card. The GameStop employee said "Huh, I thought there was nothing to download on there." I said "Mega Man 9 just came out." He said "Aw dang, that game's way too hard man."

It's like, he's trying to be tough and cool and troll Nintendo, but at the same time he can't even handle a real hardcore game like Mega Man 9. Those guys are chumps. But he got some points for saying "aw dang." I haven't heard that in years.
