You are right the next Wii will go beyond HD. HD is not enough to entice new people to buy a game system. So allow me to introduce.....


The Hii with 2560x1600 resolution through dual HDMI outputs.....Now I sound like Sony.

Hd the only new feature ? All this talk about HD here HD there. its the higher processing power the higher Hardware power which comes with HD which is an improvment this was selling all consoles since Atari 2600 a better Hardware.

And to vonboysp. It cant be SD every change would result in the fact that a WII successor will be able to render pictures in a resolution as high as 720p. Even with lowtec in 2-3 years the wii successor would have HD.

But thats not the point Higher Processing power also allows new technologys and different games with higher AI better Physics. Upto this day we havent seen much improvment in those things but we will see it in the future. higher processing power allows the developer to do more with the system. 3d needs a higher hardware power. I can imagine Nintendo going that way. They tried it with Virtualboy and failed miserably but they know the potency of 3d and in 3 years a lot of things can change.


The extra expenses for HD graphic Hardware vise will be so small that a WII 2 could be more powerful then the PS3 and could be realeased at 249 Dollar and Nintendo could make the same money per console. The decision not to go HD was primarily based on the fact that it would be to expensive to do that. And that nobody had it but in 3 years the majority of people will have it especially the people who buy Consoles they will have a higher adoption rate then the non gamers. Infact I dont know a single person who plays games without HD screen.


Hd was not right for them this gen but its not a question wheter it will be HD or not. It will definelty be HD. HD is the new standard everything will be HD.



An Update which makes HD possible will make also other things possible and maybe next gen I will be a Nintendo gamer. Because I think Nintendo could unite their old market with the HD market of today.

With all this talk about the wii 2. I'm wondering if they are working on the system right now

they started working on the next system on day one of the realease of the Wii, all console manufacturers start their R&D immedietly after they released their current console.

Note that we are talking about the Wii's successor. WiiHD implies just a resolution upgrade to the same machine not a successor. Iwata has said that not such upgrade would justify an additional purchase to the consumer, and he is mostly right. I wouldn't pay $250+ to play the same games upscaled to 1080.
But the Wii's successor will have 1080 resolution, now will Nintendo go traditional and just make the new console more powerful with upgraded motion controls? or will it be a little more powerful just enough to get HD visuals but focused on even more engaging gameplay?

Probably before the Wii was released in fact... though for at least a year or two after the Wii's release, it will have been heavily on the research side of R&D.
