Forums - Sony - EDGE rant

@Xoj

To use mods as bullet-points for content is like saying there is no such thing as a ps2/n64 exclusive etc. because every game can be emulated on the pc.

Its user-created......it doesnt count as something the company did.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

I never liked EDGE, it seem in the 1st half of 09 they never gave a single 9 out (or 8 if I can recall)

so if its on PC it doesn't count?.

=P.

Scores are irrelevant. They seem to back up their views with reasonable support. Just cover up the numbers and read the words and you'll be fine.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Actually, he's right. Everybody who's not in denial knows that:

1) for a long time this gen the lead plat was 360, it's only begun to change / vary recently

2) for a long time this gen the best version on multiplats was 360, it's only begun to change / vary recently

This is fact. And easily seen by the amount of internet bitching it has created on several cases (just recently Bayonetta, for example).

I know if I was a reviewer, I would try to judge a game by it's best version. For CoDs, for example, that would be PC, for stuff like Bayonetta it would be 360, heck, if anything, it's an advantage to a lesser port version, as they don't differentiate from score in the review, they just say which version they tried. They do say if X port is worse, but that isn't reflected in that game/platform's metacritic.

A review is an opinion, don't like it, fine. Why bitch about it on the web? I seriously don't get that.

Agreed.  Case in point: Edge opted to test the PS3 version of Darksiders over the 360 version this month.  From what I can gather from mumblings and grumblings on the web, this is one of the few titles where the PS3 version is superior, so fair play to Edge for approaching their reviews in this way.

I think I've mentioned this on here before, but I'm expecting their upcoming God of War review might leave fanboys spitting vitriol....just the impression I've got from a couple of their moderately enthusiastic previews.  I reckon they'll give it 7 or 8.  I'm interested to see what they'll give Bioshock 2 actually, I reckon 7 for that too.

Nope didn't work, comparing Uncharted 2 with COD still doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, those two will be interestin. The other thing I like about Edge is that they are big on innovation. Bioshock 2 is an unknown entity, but GoW3... from the demo, from all the articles, it just seems GoW in HD - that's not bad, I love GoW, I have the three games (PS2 and PSP) and enjoy them, but it really just seems like GoW with better graphics. Years have passed, and the genre has evolved, if that game doesn't do anything relevant and doesn't show evolution... it's gonna suffer.

Sure it does.  We all compare games cross-genres, evaluating what we value in one over another.  We all have limited time and cash and need to make decisions about what to buy and play.  Do I play Mass Effect or Bayonetta?  I only have time and cash for one?  Do I buy Heavy Rain or Bioshock 2?  Can't afford both.

We always compare and contrast games.  It's human nature.

What you guys forget is that "Edge" saying something is a 6 while metacritic says 75 is A:  not a huge difference.   B:  the opinion of a couple people whose job it is to sell magazines, just as websites are designed to drive click-through traffic and page views.  It amuses me when people get so worked up about scores.  They are meaningless.

I try to read multiple reviews for titles I'm interested in, but I think the key is to find a handful of sources you trust, and take all this Metacritic malarkey with a humungous pinch of salt.  Mega Action gave Terminator 2 Judgement Day 87%.  Sega Power gave it 17%.  Where was Metacritic then, hmmm??  We all got by (thanks for buying me T2 dad...)

HAHAHA wasn't that game awful though? I had it too, before I knew about video game reviews.

Didn't see this, sorry.  That game was incredibly bad.  Mega Action never got a penny from me after that.  First they put the price up from 99p, then it all went to hell .

I hate EDGE
they gave 1/2 the games I own like a 6, and give Halo:ODST a 9 , yeh I'm quite sure it deserves the same mark as U2 :(
