Forums - Gaming Discussion - These Five People Keep The Gaming Industry Exciting

In every segment of society, there are folks who make themselves known to everyone. They do things that regular people would only do if they were under the influence of alcohol and say things not even politicians dare utter. Yes some folks abhor those type of people but the majority mostly love to hate them.

In the gaming industry, we have our share of said characters and although we get riled up anytime something unorthodox blurts out of their mouths, we all know the industry would be a dull place without them.

And here they are:

5: David Jaffe: The legendary creator of the God of War series and also Twisted Metal is a genius is every sense of the word. David knows how to make games that people enjoy and fans the world over are anxiously awaiting his next creation.

That being said, the guy has a bad tendency for saying things he don’t mean or that comes off the wrong way incessantly. Some have gone as far as renaming him David Gaff – as being a gaff machine. For some reason, people tend to disagree with the guy constantly. Take this for example: GameStop and companies like it make a ton load of cash from used games sale, some titles make them 50% more than the brand new ones. Countless developers have ranted about the dilemma and David is one of them.

David said that GameStop is somehow ripping developers off and that the retailer should give them a cut from the profits made. Well that caused even a bigger uproar and David decided he’d just shut up and if anyone caught him blogging in less than six months, he’d give that person a free game. Get your free game here.

4: Bobby Kotick: Ah, is there a bigger say-what-I-please example than Robert? Not on planet earth, that guy irritates hell out of the most annoying people. He says things that are so out of sync, out of touch with the gaming community, you’d think he had split personalities; either that or he’s just extremely heady. I’ll stick with the latter.

He’s said a lot of things but the comment that raised the most eyebrows was when the Activision boss uttered this:

“And Tony, you know if it was left to me, I would raise the [game] prices even further.”

Kotick said those words in an Activison Blizzard investor relations conference call after the company’s president and CEO of publishing, Michael Griffith, noted “very strong retailer acceptance and support for all parts of our plan, including… our price.”

3.Aaron Greenberg: He is the ultimate Xbox 360 fanboy. As Director of Product Management at Microsoft’s Xbox division, the man defends Xbox with a passion. Say something unfavorable about MS and feel the wrath on Mr. Greenberg. Some of the things he’s said are so fool of boast it’ll erk even the P.Diddys of the world.

He loves to insult the competition saying things like: “I am confident we will outsell the PS3 throughout the entire generation by providing more innovation and building the best and broadest games library while growing our entertainment experiences on the leading online network.”

Boasting words eh? Well they came after the man who’s up next said some rather naughty things.

2: Kaz Hirai: Kaz Hirai is Sony Company Entertainment International boss, he knows the company and its countless dealings in and out. Don’t mess with him. The man knows more about business than the Queen knows about England but what he may not know is that sometimes, not every time but sometimes he talks too much. Remember when Aaron Greenberg said he’s was confident that Xbox 360 will outsell PS3 for this entire generation? Well it was in response to someting Kaz said:

“And with the Xbox – again, I can’t come up with one word to fit. You need a word that describes something that lacks longevity…last time I checked they’ve never had a ten year life cycle, so you do the math,” he told PlayStation: The Official Magazine some time back.

“And unless things go really bad, there’s no way that at the end of a cycle our competition is going to have a higher install base.”

See what I mean folks, the man says some real heated things.

1: Michael Pachter: All the aforementioned industry men say blah amazing quotes, that’s why they’re on this list but Lord help us all with the man who’s the number one entertainer in the gaming industry. He says things that are so wild, so thoughtless, so pathetic sometimes that you wonder if he’s just seeking attention – His predictions are out there more than “out there TV” and yet, we feel boring if the Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst fail to say something to flare up passions.

He now has his own show on Game Trailers dubbed “Pach Attack” so things are only going to get “worst”.

Recently, Pachter lashed out at Epic Games saying the developer regretted it signed a contract with Microsoft that would keep Gears of War exclusive to the Xbox 360, he said that after Geoff Keighley of Bonus Round asked him whether he thought the franchise would go multiplat:

“I don’t. I think that Microsoft has a contract to make sure that they get that sequel, But I think Epic regrets signing that contract,” the wedbush Morgan analyst said. “You’re up to 11 million PS3 in the US and probably similar number in Europe, you got a 20 million addressable market with a game like Gears of War, I mean that thing would easily sell 3 or 4 million on the PS3; that’s a lot of profit.”

His statement sent the entire gaming community into an uproar, with most disagreeing with Pachter’s stance but that’s not all; days would fail me if I attempted to write his never-ending list of fiery quotes and comments. But when it’s all said and done, we know we love them don’t we?

The crazy things they say, the wild predictions that mostly never come to pass -we love it! They keep this society lively! Exciting – there’s never a dull moment and so I’ll conclude with this:

Long live Bobby -keep annoying us! Long live David – where are the games dude? Long live Aaron – every fanboy’s role model. Long live Kaz – it’s been a while, say something wild again sir. And long live Michael Pachter -uou make us laugh- hard!

long live the gaming industry!

If by exciting they mean "mentally challenged and childish" I agree.

The existence of guys like these will just give some comic relief when the industry crashes.

What NJ5 said. I came here expecting to see Miyamoto, Kojima, the fat guy on Valve etc. and I get this shit.

EDIT - hahaha, but we are really stupid. Read the article dudes, it's a big joke, poking on these losers up there.

Michael Patcher exciting.. er I guess. In the sense that his predictions and "analysis" are so delusional that they make for good entertainment, not to mention completely deceive people.

Basically, this.

EDIT:  I feel Dennis Dyack deserves an honourable mention at least as well, however.

And of course "Krazy Ken."
