Every game has content cut from it. Not something new.

I think I read somewhere that FF X and X-2 was originally all going to be one game.

You've read right, Kitase himself told it when X-2 was revealed.

I still don't get the cut content complaints, every FF has them, even FF6 had it, and it was a massive cut (one entire world + tons of espers and items left out).

Pretty sure that's not true. I actually found a interview with Yoshinori Kitase that IGN did that proves it untrue.

Behold:

IGN: Why was Final Fantasy X the first Final Fantasy game to be given a true sequel?

Kitase: We included a short story/movie titled "Eternal Calm" in FFX International, which was released in Japan in January 2002. "Eternal Calm" showed life in Spira, after the ending of the original story in FFX. Fan reaction was larger than we expected and we decided to continue the story of Yuna and surrounding characters in a sequel.

At that time, our team was ready for a new challenge (for a new game, not a sequel) but we thought that creating a sequel to FFX would still be a challenge in a different way and so we made the decision to create a sequel.

Motomu Toriyama: FFX was a "complete" product that it made it very difficult for us to just say good-bye to it. Also, the characters were so appealing that many fans wanted to see more of them. However, what really triggered us to move forward with a sequel was the inclusion of the "Eternal Calm" in FFX International (only released in Japan); a short story that depicted the world of Spira two years after the ending of the original story.

IGN: Was it always the plan to be told in this manner? As two parts or even three-parts? Or is this the result of something that happened after the game had already been released?

Kitase: No, it wasn't planned - as mentioned in the previous answer, it was triggered by fans reaction to "Eternal Calm."

Toriyama: When we were working on FFX, there were no talks about a sequel. However, after completing FFX, we thought it would be nice to create a new story in this same world some day. Personally, I wanted to create a game where one could revisit the world and the characters - say, maybe once every two or three years. So, it was quite meaningful that we were able to do a sequel with FFX-2.

Give me sometime and I'll find you the video interview where he said that. Also, i'm curious about this one. He says that this was triggered by fan reaction to the Eternal Calm, yet that was only in the JP version. How could fan reaction be so massive for this particular international version and never was for other versions that had cut content.

No FF game is ever "complete", he kind of contradicted himself in there.

Yes I to have seen and read a few articles about FFX 2 being cut from the game. Obviously it wasnt quite in the form it released. But was flowed into FF10 itself. This interview with IGN is completely off spark from others Ive seen ( in video ) and read from Square Enix. Finding them will be a bitch now.

Looks like they tried to U turn and make it feel like it wasnt 2nd rate. ( Which it was ). Almost all FF games have hours and hours of game cut. You think they get the flow and feel of FF right the first time. It's like films. Loads gets cut before release.

@Selnor

Yeah, this tendency has been consistant since FF6. I don't get why only now people complain about the cut content of FFXIII, calling it an inferior game because of it.

Actually, i'm glad that this time around we may get the chance to experience part of that content, if they release it in DLC.

Oh, sorry I didn't knew that :( I wouldn't have said so many spoiler to you if that was the case >_<

Oh, no worries at all, I knew that stuff already, I just can't say I have a very good grasp of it.

Yes. I love DLC for RPG's. I hope they bring lots for FF13. Hey what if they brought an overworld map, like WOW. With different stories to each. That would kick arse. Hry maybe I just had an idea for Square. FF6 remake with more islands and stories. That would be heaven. FF7 to.

Actually, if they ever made a FF6 remake, they'll have to put in the Esper world that got cut out from the game. That would be pretty awesome, a lot of story from FF6 was supposed to dwell in there, especially Terra figuring out about her roots and the source of the Goddesses Statues

Sounds like 360 got the more authentic Final Fantasy experience then.

Technically isn't the more FF authentical experience in Cartdriges, since it started there? CD swapping in FF was only for one generation, single DVD was only for one as well, Blu-ray + DVD swapping is probably for this one as well.

What was the point of that anyway? o.O

Just a joke, don't take it too seriously.

I still love carts. Totally hyped for FF Gaiden.

Oh ok then xD

Yeah, even though they were really expensive on the SNES, I loved the artwork they used for the cartdriges covers for old FF's.

Disc swapping complaints are ridiculous. I mean wtf?

I haven't read the thread so I don't know if anyone is pissed by this but I would seriously want to have a talk with him and ask his weight while I'm at it.
