Forums - Sales Discussion - Koei Tecmo fall significantly (blames poor SM3 sales and more)

:(

So it outsells all the 360 games they came out with in Japan COMBINED by 1.5 and gets within 80% of the sales range of PS3 titles that have been out for 2 years+ as opposed to 2 1/2 months.............

Wait, what? I could not really imagine what the hell they were expecting.........

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

What were they smoking? This is the first real Musou game for the Wii since it launched 3 years ago and it already trashed every 360 Musou and most of the PSP Musou games they've been chucking out nonstop. I can't imagine how much they were expecting after neglecting the Wii for so long. They need to build the audience because their own incompentence and complete inability to react to the growing Wii market without Nintendo nudging them put them in this position.

Musou used to be such a mainstream franchise; it fell so hard on the PS360. They should have shifted to Wii development when it became apparent which console was dominating Japan. Instead they shoved themselves into a corner with a failing business model, unable to change or adapt to the new market even after years of doing the same thing over and over again. Sort of like their games!

More bullshit from the third party companies, it is so easy to blame the Wii.

In my opinion this game sold well, I would even say that it sold above expectations. Let's see what they say when Hokuto Musou fails miserabily to sell one million copies in Japan.

I wouldn't be surprised if they blame it on Wii.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

lol.  So in the latest Famitsu, it seems there's an interview with the head of Omega Force and he says (roughly translated) "Sengoku 3 managed to broaden the users (more players than the previous series)".

Maybe Koei's IR people should talk to the rest of the company...

They don't blame the Wii in that article at all. The blame the sales of a Wii game, but nowhere do they blame the Wii...

Seriously, people just want to put these words in a publishers mouth now. It's kind of sad.

Yeah lol that statement really confused me :P I mean ok we expected it to do better at first, but really it is the first Mousou game and it's already established on the PS3. The legs though have been great and i guess it seems they've created some sort of fanbase, so maybe the next iteration will grow on that.

Knowing Koei, they probably projected a million.  lol.

It's done about as well as the series debuts on PSP and PS3, even without the benefit of launch rush or the Gundam license.  All in all, I can't say that's too disappointing.

To say it's disappointing is one thing, cuz maybe it is below PS3's dynasty warriors' sales. However blaming their losses on the game really means that they actually expected a minimum of 500k+ which was never going to happen. Hell like u said they probably expected a million. Well let's see how it performs in the states

They also said their HD Musou games underperformed. Just another case of unrealistic expectations.

Yep. Maybe it's time Koei realize that people are getting sick of the same old Dynasty Warrior games being made over and over again. It's called oversaturation, ever heard of the term Koei?
