Forums - Gaming Discussion - Walmart and Best Buy no longer want your used games....FAIL!!!!!

Sorry, NBA 2K3: there’s no longer a home for you at Walmart or Best Buy. Both retailers entered the lucrative used videogames market last May. Less than eight months on, both are now quitting the business, having been unable to match the success of specialist stores, such as GameStop.

Used game kiosks were supplied to Walmart and Best Buy last year by E-play. Unfortunately, E-play suspended all operations today, resulting in both retailers deciding to move away from used games
for now. Said kiosks will be turned off and removed from the locations over the coming weeks.

It’s easy to see what attracted Walmart and Best Buy to selling second-hand videogames: around half of GameStop’s profits come from the used game market.

As it turns out, dedicated gaming stores seem to fare better at used games, though I wouldn’t rule out Walmart and Best Buy returning in the future. Until that day arrives, it looks like GameStop will have less competition to beat in the price wars: a shame for consumers.
