Oh com'on you two. It's going to be the greatest racing game ever thanks to the long time in development.

Don't bail out like that.

GT5 will have been in 5 different E3 showings. (first showing E3 2006 as Gran Turismo HD, which was then scrapped and called GT5 in 2007) I think people may stop caring at this point and not feel bad.

Wat.  GTHD has been available as a free download on the PlayStation Store since the ps3's launch.  It was basically GT4 with a new GUI and higher poly cars.

At E307 they announced GT5: Prologue (and by extension GT5), which launched only five months later in December in Japan.

They didn't really start heavy development on GT5 until late 2006, after they finished up Tourist Trophy for ps2, and during the development of TT, GTHD, and GT5 they were simultaneously developing GT PSP, which only dropped a few months ago.

They haven't been that bad.  They've actually had quite a lot on their plate, while seemingly managing to release not one but two games with ~1000 cars each within a year of each other (assuming GT5 makes it out this year, which is basically a given at this point).

well, it was my understanding that GTHD was the original GT5 and that it had a sampler released in Japan. According to Wiki "This game was intended to be a sneak preview, in the likes of Gran Turismo Concept, preceding the release of a full version title but the Gran Turismo HD project was canceled and replaced by Gran Turismo 5 Prologue."

Either way, 4 E3's

@Naz

It's not like I'm hurting for games, it was just that I got a PS3, saw the demo disc (included) thought to myself that I like a good racer every now and then, and waited, and waited. The problem, is too many other good games are getting announced and being released quickly, and I don't have time for all of them, and GT5 has already been replaced. Who knows, maybe my mind will change by the time it gets released. I'm sure it will be a great game.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

This game will sell no matter what, but back in 2007 they expected to launch the game in Christmas 2008, Yamauchi himself said so:

At some point it just smacks of bad management to let it slip 2 years.

smacks of bad management?

Positively reeks of it.

GT:Forever here we come

Unless, of course they're waiting for official licences from various racing institutions i.e. WRC, IndyCar, NASCAR etc.

But why don't they just say that's the case?

Every month that goes by GT5 reduces the impact that GT5 will create when it releases. Sure the game will sell, but the PS3 wont see less of a hardware bump. Now by the time GT5 releases the PS3 should be close to 40 million consoles sold and certainly a great deal of them are already GT fans.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

don't say that, then they'll wait until the PS3 userbase is at 100 million before releasing it

I'm seriously losing interest for that game. At thar rate Forza 4 will be out before it does.

It was gonna come out in 2009 but now it's coming in 2010. Am I the only one not seeing the big deal here? Or did you all expect it in 2008, when Prologue released worldwide and was still selling a lot?

They'll most probably release GT5 on the same day as Halo Reach, much like Mass Effect 2/Mag and Splinter Cell Conviction/Heavy Rain. (Splinter Cell was recently delayed again)

Yamauchi did.

I think that GT5 was essentially done back at E3 when KY said that they can release it anytime they want. I think it is up to Sony Marketing of when they want to release the game since I think it is just being polished up until the the final release date becomes public.

I have no problem with the delay.

We're not tools of the government, or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing... the only thing I was good at. But... at least I always fought for what I believed in.

In the same year as the Prologue was never going to happen. Not when it was selling so well. The game was 2009 at the earliest. And that was before they decided to commit to damage and all the other features fans were screaming for.

GT5 in 2008 was not the same game as GT5 in 2010.
