Forums - General Discussion - Pope condemns gay equality laws ahead of first UK visit

Everyone in here is massively over-reacting.

The Pope has simply said that he doesn't want a law that prevents the Catholic church from appointing who it wants, in the positions it wants, within it's own organization.

That is a perfectly reasonable position to take. Religious freedom is just as important as any other.

Of course he's opposed to equality of homosexuals. he's the catholic pope.
Doesn't mean it's any less miserable, petty or vile. Just means it's what's to be expected.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I wish they could someday cure it. That would be the easiest solution.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Homosexuality is not a disease.. the easiest solution would be for everyone to accept that its normal.

This.

Currently, since sexual preference isn't allowed to be a factor in giving someone a job, if a priest announces to be openly gay, he couldn't be sacked for it.

That would be weird, considering the churches moral opposition to homosexuality, it would be like if someone would protest against the church not employing atheist, or jewish, or female, etc priests.

I's not discrimination, it is a traditional requirement of the job.

Well good luck with that.. maybe you could make it a project of yours to"cure" homosexuality. Please share the results with us.

I doubt that Tyrannical really believes the disease thing now... this is just trolling.

On the topic at hand, the pope's statement could be related to anything not just homosexual equality. Not that it matters though. We know their stance and we know that they are dying. I doubt I'll be able to witness it but I know that there will be a moment where the catholic church will just throw up it's hands, say: Fuck it, let's call it a wrap because really we 12 cardinals are all that is left in the world - and then the Vatican can become a museum of a religion lost.
That would be peachy perfect. For now: Welcome into a secular world, bitzezzzz

@Alterego. Recently read that in one of the Scandinavian countries theres an atheist priest, he believes in the teachings of Jesus but not that he was the son of God...

That actually sounds pretty plausible. I can believe that Jesus existed as a missionary at the time and that he had a lot of followers. His teachings aren't as bad as the bible, only focussing on love and forgiveness.

If the church was like that, I could perhaps get behind one.
