Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which TV should I buy?

It was so much easier to buy a TV when all the choices were 16:9 or 4:3.... :)

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

You don't want a 100Hz tv for gaming. Motion interpolation reduces motion blur but it also adds input lag, making it undesirable for gaming. So you'd just have it disabled anyway.

If you intend to watch lots of sports on it, get a 100Hz one. If you don't it'd just be a waste of money.

Oh, and motion blur is an LCD issue, plasmas don't suffer from it. In fact a plasma will beat even a 100Hz LCD when it comes to motion handling.

Well of course a Plasma will beat an LCD at motion handling but they are not suitable for gaming. The burn in issue that Plasmas still have make them a bigger problem than any small amount of input lag that a 100Hz LCD will have.

Plasmas haven't had any burn-in issues for ages. Image retention, sure, but burn-in is a thing of the past.

Same issue, different name.  And no its not a thing of the past, it does still happen.  And in some cases there are ways of reversing it, but that isnt always the case

It is not the same issue. Burn can be permanent. Image retention is not permanent. Either way, any permanent effect that can occur to a plasma screen will not occur under normal use, including gaming for hours at a time.

If the majority of the TV's life is used to play a game that has the same static HUB or watching a sports programs that havce the exact same layout, you will get burn in over time with a plasma. In fact, even some badly made LCD's can get the same, but it takes much longer for an LCD. Have you ever seen a plasma at a bar that has never left the sports channels. After a lenght of time when it goes to commercial, you can still see the bar across the top or bottom where the scores were once displayed.

I have a Plasma at work that is used for displaying important information that has the same format, When you change the input, you can still the the after image.

Burn in has been reduced, but not eliminated with new plasma TV's. It has been and will always be a problem with and will always be a problem with the technology. Despite what your local "Best Buy TV expert" tells you.

Well luckily I don't go by what "best buy tv experts" say, I go by what I know. Realisticly, you aren't going to play a game for enough hours in a row to cause any sort of problem. Fear of burn in should in NO way impeed someones descision when buying a new tv for regular home use.

Gonna be picky here... LG certainly doesnt rank among the 'best'.  There might be a case of best value for money, but best no...

Sony, Philips, >>> Panasonic> Samsung and LG

But none of them is bad...

lol...

How is Sony the best? Samsung makes their LCD panel...
And Phillips?

In north America, its common knowledge that Samsung  Sony and Sharp offer the best LCds. And Panasonic and Pioneer (RIP) do the best plasmas.

I'm currently not sure whether to buy the LG 37' LH4000 (Full HD & 100 Hertz) or the LG 37' LH3000 (Full HD & 50 Hertz). The first one would be around 599 Euros and the second one ~ 480 Euro.

My main question is, if 100 Hertz is important for playing PS3 or is the difference between both that visible? What would be better to watch TV and/or play Wii relating to the amount of Hertz? I want to play most of the time PS3 and Wii on it.

Has anyone some experiences with both models?

Please help me! I just got a new PS3 Slim and I want to play it on a TV with HD v_v'

i would suggest you wait just till may 2010 and then buy it.if sony releases 3d tv's at a reasonable rate then it would be great for you.

about the 3d tv's refresh rate.it is  100-120hz minimum but i would suggest 150hz cause most companies have problem with the minimum tech so you should a little bufferzone(extra).

also the 3d tv's hertz requirement thing isn't gonna matter neccesarily cause 3d isn't mainstream yet and they are trying out different ways and technologies to produce it..if in future companies come with another way of producing 3d then your 100hertz tv won't do anything cause the future technology would work differently.

so i would suggest you to wait till may 2010 then when Sony launch their 3d tv's,you will atleast know whether they are using the same tech as now or a new one so that you will be assured that tech is supported well in the future and your PS3 will also work with it.so whichever tech they are using will be supported and will become mainstream

they gotten better recently i was surprised how retailers are backing LG up.

they have a better service than samsung also.

but panasonic and sony are the nicest

Samsung TVs are probably the best you can get, they make the LCD panels most other companies use in their TVs, including Sony.

Samsung, Sharp and Sony are how the Top 3, in order, would look for LCD. And I would buy a Vizio LCD TV over an LG LCD TV, they just arent good. Panasonic only makes really good Plasmas, along with Pioneer if they still make them.

I know disolitude already said this several times, but it can't be repeated enough that NOT ALL 120 Hz TVs SUPPORT 3-D!

I foresee a lot of disappointed people in a few months/years, when they find out their TVs don't support 3D when they thought they did.
