Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 bundled Dualshock 3 vs Standalone Dualshock 3(Help!!!)

hey so my cousins are coming over this month so i went to the store and bought a new PS3 dualshock 3 so that i and my cousins can play some tekken 6.but this controller is a bit different.it is an original and from Sony but there are some differences between this and the one i got in box with my PS3.here are  the differences:

the standalone is a bit grayish vs the the shiny black one i got with the PS3

this has kind of Matte finish vs the glossy finish on bundled controller

the sparkling(the usual standard dualshock skin) shiny skin of the controller is less visible vs the shiny black and sparkling of my previous one.

this all above might sound weird but i'm kind of perfectionist so i like my things the way they are.i love my old controller but the new one feels and looks different.

this the first time i'm buying a standalone controller for my PS3.i had kind of a same thing when i bought standalone PS2 controller.it was also a bit different.so anybody who has two controllers, please tell me whether it is normal or there is always a difference between standalone's and the one's bundled with the ps3.

I have no idea but based on what you said it sounds like it just a different color.

Its not a different color.its black but everything is a little bit faded kind.i had the same thing when i bought a standalone PS2 controller

Those controllers are more than likely manufactured at diffrent time so there might be some small diffrences in colour and maybe even small changes inside the mechanisms.

i was thinking this myself but i thought 1 control was just more worn out

The new one isn't yet covered in sweat of your hands. Just play it for some time... ;)

I have one of those new controllers you've mentioned. (It came with the GH bundle during the holiday), those seem harder to find IMO, as i still see alot more standalone DS3 that matches the original on shelves. But I'm not sure the reason why its like that for some DS3 controllers.

the controller that comes with the ps3 sucks and its cheap quality the dualshock 3 that u buy alone is good and it is kinda gray and its heavier and the buttons feel smoother and better which gives it a better overall feeling so i dont think urs is weird or anything ohh yeah and about the color its not the same the one thats bundles is dark black and the standalone controller is grayish black color

New DS3 are matte finish, old 1's are glossy (a bit). That's it. No other differences.

I *think* the new controller you have started being manufactured when the Slim was released. The finish matches the Slim's finish, while the old controller matched the original PS3.
