Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony on the Heavy Rain 'gamble'

Source: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=233184

Sony has told CVG that releasing new IP as left-field as Heavy Rain is a 'gamble' - but that it has full faith the title can become a watershed moment in gaming.

The release has already picked up some storming reviews, with both Official PlayStation Magazine and GamesMaster awarding it a 90%-plus score.

Sony product manager for Heavy Rain told CVG:

"Being Sony, I suppose we have a little more luxury to take a gamble on more original and innovative IP - and Heavy Rain definitely fits that category.

"I suppose the risk is lessened if you have faith in the team behind the game and David and Guillaume and the guys at Quantic Dreams have really impressed, not just in terms of their back catalogue - Farenheit - but also in terms of the tech demos they showed in the run up to Heavy Rain."

She added:

"It would love for it to achieve [recognition as a watershed moment]. I really believe Heavy Rain has a great chance of breaking out. As well as the reviews, there also feels like there is a real groundswell of anticipation from gaming communities and trade alike - so let's see how it goes."

I agree, Heavy Rain will be a Great game, It will do well, Its different but there is something about playing a game that there is nothing else like it, especially when its a real good game. Can't wait to get it, Thankfully I have it pre ordered.

Looks like Sony is really anticipating the release of this game. But they have faith in Quantic Dreams and so do I! 23 more days until Heavy Rain's release!

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

More than just about any other game this game will be all about the story. If people really buzz about the story this game will open with modest sales, but it will have great legs. If the story is on the same level as the average action/adventure game story then Heavy Rain will achieve modest sales.

Personally I plan to treat this game like a TV series, one that I can get other family members who don't game at all engrossed in. I want this game to be a weekly "it's Heavy Rain night" game, at least for one play through. If I screw up too much and kill off more people than I want to I'll be playing through a second time, but I don't expect anyone to watch the "TV series" a second time. Or maybe I play through once first to see how the story is then get others in the family to watch the 2nd play through.

This has been posted but your thread is more popular so... good going Sony i am glad they are willing to take risks on new 3rd party IPs like Heavy Rain.

In other words, Sony do not have any sense for what consumers do want from GAMES, so they rely upon hit or miss strategy taken from teh MOVIES? No wonder, their titles do more misses than hits, then.

No, maybe they dont know what YOU want form games. Heavy Rain gives us something new and different some people appreciate that and in the future some games may take elements form Heavy Rain and th eindustry could be better for it.

Sony has given us Infamous, God of War, Resistance, Uncharted 4 completely different genres, 4 completely badass games.

Im all for well thought out posts explaining why Heavy Rain isnt good for gaming or Heavy Rain is stupid, but to be honest, i have yet to see any. All i see is a bunch of juvenile bullshit from people who this game isnt even aimed at.

I dont go into RTS game threads and shit on them because i dont like them, yet people who arent interested in what Heavy Rain offers seem to have no problem doing just that. Move along.

I wasn't that interested in the game at first but after watching a lot of vids the story was sucking me in a lot. Probably gonna get it.
