Forums - Sales - 360/PS3 Gap in 2010

If the gap continues to diminish at this rate, I think this could really be possible.

So 800k lead for Jan/Mar, impressive, 1.7 mill lead by September?

i doubt that... most of this comes from january.

its averaging much less through feb and march.

and this shows quite well here....

For PS3 to overtake 360, PS3 will need to outsell 360 by:

630,115 per month to catch it by Jan 2011. 145,411 per week, on average every week.
270,049 per month to catch it by Jan 2012. 62,319 per week, on average every week.
171,850 per month to catch it by Jan 2013. 39,658 per week, on average every week.
126,023 per month to catch it by Jan 2014. 29,082 per week, on average every week.

Current rate is:  235,636 p/m on average for the last 12 months. 2.06 years to catch at this rate
348,853 p/m on average for the last 6 months. 1.39 years to catch at this rate
143,190 p/m on average for the last 3 months. 3.40 years to catch at this rate

NOTE that the 3 months figure is skewed and will get more accurate as march progresses.

I meant a 1.7 mill lead for the year, not total's

Edit - Actually I mean 1.7 mill lead up until September 1st

wow ps3 is closing in on 360 fairly quickly

If February was indeed XBox's biggest month yet as Microsoft are claiming I wonder what they make of this thread.

Of course this is just VGC numbers.

If we use just NPD figures from last 2 months as a sample of Data 360 outsold PS3 by 120k, or 60k a month. And over 300k in the past 5 months. A time when it had its price cut and holiday.
The question is who do you believe? VGC who have according to NPD have under-tracked 360 6 of the last 7 months or NPD?
If we take NPDs average of 360 outselling PS3 by around 15k-20k a week and put that average into the WW charts would see the gap in 2010 be just 160k.

Point being you got basically 2 sets of data to choose from. 1 which is basically saying 360 is selling strong (having been the top selling console last month) and one which says 360 is doing average and is currently 3rd.

Me personally i think PS3 has not really closed the gap as much as i expected it to. For me March represents its most important month this year as after that all the hype games will be out. Beyond that all it has is GT5. A game that in my opinion again will be delayed until either holidays or next year.

@Kowenicki Based on the NPD numbers I think your a bit too quick to assume the price cut is wearing off especially considering the fact that there are shortages, plus I don't think we have an entirely clear picture of the Americas. 360 might be beating PS3 in America but supposedely PS3 has been winning in Canada rather handily since December. Speaking of which, didn't NPD have PS3 edging out 360 in December? With a victory in Canada that would be a fair lead for PS3 but VGC has 360 ahead.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

With the Slime effect wearing off, up only 30% for the year even with all the difficulties finding one. Things are looking grim so far.

december was a dead heat. 50k out of 1.3m

canada is a small market.

nppd also had 360 further ahead than vgc for feb and I think jan.

I said edge out, not a decisive victory. I'm aware that Canada is a small market. Small potatoes really but NPD actually has the gap slightly smaller than VGC for February. VGC has it at 76k, NPD has it at 62k. With PS3 in first place in Canada it's probably more like a 50k gap in Americas. Both consoles were undertracked, PS3 was just slightly more undertracked. :edit: @PSRock What are you talking about it's up 35%. Read Kowenicki's marketshare article. And assuming there are adjustments next week after NPD it's probably more like up 40%.
