Unlike last year, Microsoft has a pretty great (console) exclusive lineup this year too though. Natal, Halo Reach, Crackdown 2, Fable III, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Monster Hunter Frontier, Kingdom Under Fire II, Ninety-Nine Nights II and (probably) Gears of War 3. Plus it's netting choice exclusive content for a lot of multiplatform titles (Lost Planet 2, Super Street Fighter IV, etc) and still getting "superior versions" in a lot of cases (like Bayonetta recently). |
Not sure I want to get into an exclusives showdown, they often lead the thread into decent, however I must disagree, there isn't much that will beat the PS3's line-up for 2010.
Last year Uncharted 2 blew pretty much any single 360 exclusive out of the water in respect to graphics and story telling, I feel that what with the PS3 still not fully tapped and the 360 pretty much reaching it's optimum potential, we can only see Sony's advantage in graphics grow and as we all know, todays fickle gamer is all about graphics!
But I will wait until (is it E3 next?) Just to see if there are any surprises in regard to Natal/Arc games.

PS3 should be able to outsell the 360 by 3 million this year providing the sales rate remains constant and nothing really changes. PS3/360 Gap to be around 3 million by the end of 2010. However I am certain there will be a lot of twists and turns this year which will change things so the gap could be anywhere between 2 million and 5 million in favour of the 360 over the PS3. |
3 million by the end of 2010 is impossible.

Since new numbers were up yesterday I have updated the gap for the first time. There were adjustements of some thousand units in several weeks of 2010 for the 360 and the PS3. They are now included.

I'm not going to argue subjectives like quality, I'm arguing sales. Last year what's essentially a Halo 3 mission pack nearly outsold all Sony's vaunted 1st party "killer apps" combined.

That is to be expected when you have a larger install base consisting of a great many Halo fanatics, I would expect that game to sell incredibly well, they could put a masterchief helmet on Haze and it would sell millions!
In the end, it is quality that will pull the consumers and it is bland repetitive sequels that will push them away!
It seems there have been some heavy hardware adjustments in the range of several 100k this week. The gap is back far over 6 million.
I will update my table as soon as possible.

In case anyone is still interested:
Update for the week ending Feb 06th
Adjustments:
PS3 down a lot, especially before 2010
X360 up

Update for the week ending Mar 06th
PS3 keeps outselling the 360 worldwide while it still struggles in the US.
WW Gap is now down at 5,671,037 with a weekly change of -40,819.
For 2010, the PS3 has an advantage of 638,187 units.
Adjustments:
Extremely minor this week with changes of some hundreds of consoles.
