At the end of Domination there are 8 different objectives spread apart, that is only 16 people per objective. Hardly huge.

Domination splits the teams into 4ths and puts each group at each side of the map. 256 players divided by 4 is 64 players. Thus, there are 64 players, 32 players on each team, attacking and defending on each side of the map fighting to control 2 objectives until they open the final objectives. However, once the sides push into the center, they're not exactly restricted to their 2 objectives, but the defenders have more leeway as they spawn right in the center and can go wherever they need to.

The team is split into four 32-man platoons, these platoons are then split into four squads of 8.  Every objective has two squads, making 16 players per objective, each team.

The only times I saw larger than 16v16 was on Sabotage, where it is 16v16 for the first two set of objectives, then once those are taken the last objective combines them for 32v32.

Yes, it's limited to a platoon vs platoon early on (usually 16 vs 16 at each objective unless they want to work together or something), but once the final objectives are opened up, the fighting increases as the attackers circle defender's centeral spawn point. In which case the objective for the platoons will be two of the 8, but you can't say you're only fighting 16 vs 16 on the last objectives since all 256 players are fighting in that area and anybody could go where they wanted to.

By that point, people are probably going to wherever the closest objective that is being contested.

The best you can get right now is team death match, but I'd prefer Sabotage since it has Frag-O's and focuses people on the objectives.

if MAG was on the 360, it would E.X.P.L.O.D.E
thats because microsoft would of done shitloads of marketing but once again sonys marketing for one of its exclusives has been nearly non existant

That would explain it. I can't remember seeing any marketing outside some website ads.

Huh? Am I the only person who has seen this on TV?

@gamings_best - no, it's more like the "wow! 256 players! This is gonna be sick! Controls: shit, gameplay: shit, graphics: shit, campaign: nonexistent, value: non! Fuck this, I'm going back to Killzome which is superior to this in every fucking way!" sucks. I'm leet like a motherfucker dude I don't get killed in Video games. Especially in a game like MAG where you can snipe for like a day b4 being spotted. The game is just wack it's as simple as that.

hahahahahahahahaha leet, ok so you think killzone 2 got better or worse after the patch?

MAGs main selling gimmick, the 256 players, is a farce. It breaks people up so your playing with much much smaller numbers almost the entire time, thus making it resemble many other FPS games already out, so then it has to fall back on things like graphics, campaign, gameplay which are poor, non existant and seen a million times already.

Because of that and it's 77% Meta I believe no one will be talking about this game a couple of weeks from now.

The 256 players thing could have been much more than just a 'gimmick', it could have been awesome for those who like big battlefields full of soldiers. If it's true that it breaks the players up in small isolated squads then I'm not sad that this game will fail.

This is how war is today. You don't send 1.000 people in one direction to face off 1.000 people coming from the other direction. That was world war one and prior to it.

By using squad based combat with squad leaders you can uitilize real time strategy much better.

I haven't played it though so I can't comment. Never got around to trying the beta :(

lol he's just finding an excuse to not like it just because he can't get into it, if people really dewll on that "you don't see the 256" then you must hate ever eingle multiplayer shooter, in battlefield 2 never once do you see all 64 players at once, you barely see 12 if that, in ground war for MW2 never once do you ever see ALL 18 players, so ev ery fps is a gimmick then huh?

there's 1500 ai soldiers on that battlefield, count how many you see.

look MAG nails the 256, it's only proble is it doesn't look good enough, just like killzone 2 didn't play easy enough, but for a noob to admit he's a noob and generally can't handle the game is hard for these guys, so they pull some smart ass way to justify the bashing. to everyone that don't like MAG just don't buy it, don't play it, and STFU about it, I hate when people pull bullshit reasons for why they don't like some when it has abosolutly no reason why they don't like it.

MAG is more tactical than any multiplayer shooter ever made on a console, battlefield can only dream of being as strategic, Game isn't nothing but good graphics, tanks and, destructibilty 12v12 yeah come back when it at least 100v100, if you say "bigger isn't better it means one thing and one thing only YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT!!! don't come at with no bullshit "you cantz seez all teh playerz" just stay away if that's how you feel. but MAG is for those looking for a challenge, just like killzone 2 was, if you up for it then join up if not GTFO............................ noob.

People hate snipers cause they hate the fact that when running around they all of a sudden die. They don't feel like they had a chance.

I personally am a sniper in most fps games. It's hard to do. People who do run and gun "usually" don't have the patience to snipe so when they try it out get frustrated. They can't do it and they hate others doing it to them. Does that mean it's cheap? No. I've had people knife me from behind plenty of times. Someone sneak around corners and get to me. When someone gets close up, the sniper rifles loses most of it's effectiveness.

Most snipers still retain something close to a 1:1 death ratio. A Really good one can break higher then that. It's the same thing with Assault rifle people. 1:1 Death ration then you get some good player who can just own every now and then.

The difference? You can see one of them when they kill you.

I've been in every beta for this game (except for the public one since my ps3 wasn't plugged in) and I can tell you this game is balanced as far as every weapon goes. I've made 3 characters. 2 Specializing in Sniping one in assault. 2 on Raven (sniper, Assault) 1 on Sver (sniper). Valor i just don't have interest in. In the first beta's the level cap was 40 so i can't really say how it's like at 60.

EDIT: (By the way i just bought the game today, I'm already in a Clan though so I'll see you guys on the battlefield. Look for SoulSamurai)

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

@gamingsbest

Not that I don't agree with your point, but if you're going to use a video to defend the merits of MAG, I would suggest not using a video that shows how utterly boring ARMA 2 can be even with 1500 players.

Your not alone but then again it seems Sony wants to shove their products down my throat with the amount of ads that I see on Tv...
