I am unsure if you work in the business world, so let me explain this to you:
Just because a company makes money does not mean that it can be frivolous with the money. You cannot create jobs for the sake of creating jobs. You must create jobs for the sake of innovation and future productions. If Microsoft is unsure about its future in terms of staffing projects, then it can and should cut down on staff to ensure viability in the future.
Intel has a market that knows what it needs, so Intel can and needs the employees. Just because Intel is smart in hiring does not mean every company is. It is great that Intel is expanding, but not everyone can or knows how to.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
Yeah, their enterprise divisions is not really doing well, they have other competitors like Google or Apple that are doing well for exaple in the smartphone industry. Its business competitiveness. Google is earning more revenue than microsoft in their online advertising market =)
Oh, and Bill gates is not running Microsoft anymore, its Steve Ballmer, a guy who says they have screwed up Windows Mobile and Zune themselves.
While seeing people lose their jobs is not a good thing, its part of a free market. If the business feels that a resource is not needed and in the long run will hurt the company, it is let go.

Microsoft said that its quarterly earnings beat analysts' expectations and its newest operating system, Windows 7, sprinted out of the gate. This drove up stock prices and lead to thoughts that maybe the worst was behind them. __________________________________________________________ 1st of all I wanna say I am pro-Microsoft. I love my XBOX 360 and Windows 7 is better than sex, BUT............. SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!?????????? HOW MUCH F***ING MONEY DO YOU NEED MICROSOFT????!! People need jobs more than ever, and you made 6.7 BILLION NET PROFIT in 3 months and you are still letting people go. Screw YOU Billy Gates!!!!
