Just checked out the new screenshots on Diablo 3's homepage. They look better than this. I really like what they have done on the surface where some things look allmost handpainted. Other areas underground still look like crap though.

Yeah, the shots shown here are almost a year old, don't know why they are called new screens >_<
I agree, they have a lot of work to do in underground areas, but since the game has still a couple of years to go, they can still work a lot on them hopefully.
Current PC Build
CPU - i7 8700K 3.7 GHz (4.7 GHz turbo) 6 cores OC'd to 5.2 GHz with Watercooling (Hydro Series H110i) | MB - Gigabyte Z370 HD3P ATX | Gigabyte GTX 1080ti Gaming OC BLACK 11G (1657 MHz Boost Core / 11010 MHz Memory) | RAM - Corsair DIMM 32GB DDR4, 2400 MHz | PSU - Corsair CX650M (80+ Bronze) 650W | Audio - Asus Essence STX II 7.1 | Monitor - Samsung U28E590D 4K UHD, Freesync, 1 ms, 60 Hz, 28"
What they really need to fix are the strict lines everywhere underground. You see it really well whenever there are stairs or stonefences involved. Or basically in everything that's supposed to be manmade. It just sticks out so much and destroys the atmosphere. IMO!
But the surface really is beautiful sometimes:)
Yeah you're right, they should soften the constructions overall, they reveal too much and it goes a bit against the map constructs of older Diablos. They need to strike a balance between pathfinding and ambient. I think they almost got it in overworld areas, but underground needs a lot of work still.
Probably we'll get some new shoots from a new build when Blizzard has it's annual convention, but since this game is yet too far from it's release date, i'm not waiting for much yet.

I know I complain a bit here but that's only because I love the series so much:)
And you're right. Blizzard still have time to polish. They never do things halfway.
I'm sure it'll be fine and I'm definately gonna get it when it comes out.
It's normal that fans don't like changes done in each new iteration of their favourite games, I was a bit dissapointed as well when the first pics were shown, didn't like the mood at all.
But Blizzard being what they are, they take heed of their fans complaints. While they are trying to stay as true to their vision as they can, they are also trying to get more of what fans are asking of them, and that's why they are one of my favourite developers.
They just need to release Diablo II 1.13 patch ASAP >_

What does Diablo 1 have to do with anything? It looks totally different than Torchlight and Diablo 3 so if you're trying to say that Torchlight copied Diablo 1's art style (which is all we're talking about here) then I will laugh at you.
Diablo 1:
Torchlight:
Diablo 3:
I'm glad the color pallette has been broadened, i'm tired of all the dark games. They can have a point, but i'd much rather see something more vibrant. Plus, the gameplay will be awesome.
Currently own: PC (duh), SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP.

Are you for real?
Diablo III trailers and screenshots were released years before Torchlight was even announced.
Behold Torchlight, a fresh new Action RPG franchise developed by Runic Games. Torchlight is being developed in Seattle by a veteran team composed of the designers and leads of projects like Diablo, Diablo II, Mythos, and Fate. Our team has spent many years honing and evolving this unique style of gameplay. |

You know what's sad? People are still trying to pin Diablo 3 as a Torchlight wannabe XD
What's funnier is that the most recent screenshots from the official site look way better than this ones, which are as old as they can be, and they are nothing close to the Torchlight art style as some here are trying to say :P
