Forums - Sales Discussion - Holy Hell hardware adjustments!

Oh ioi just ignore them haha. Bunch of drama queens anyways. I'm just glad that your main goal is accuracy which some of these guys can't understand. They look at this site for their own system to be treated as a god instead of sales as an unbiased form. Oh well.

I'm glad Nintendo releases all those charts showing all this as they are quite helpful to us and definitely shows trends to help predict the future.

I agree with this.

The nintendo charts came from other independant trackers such as GFK, CHART-TRACK etc...

Go buy Metroid OTHER M!

You can add me, I won't stop you!

I think people are just shook up because it happened overnight. Maybe an editorial or something when adjustments this big happen, explaining why, would be a great thing. Also... some of the comments, from staff, pisses me off.

@ Khuutra - thats a good question and you know it. I'm just curious.

Fanboy meltdown on VGC. Damage control by some fans. But will there be more sales adjustments made?

Yes, there are fanboy meltdowns. But it's much more than that! It's about reliability of VGC data now. 2mil 360's in shelves?? Is that normal? Ps3 overtracked by 1.1mil despite Sony seeming to be amazingly happy with sales? If you look closely, most data was adjusted from "Others" region. Which, if you think about it, is the one region where VGC really doesn't have a larger organization to compare its data with (as  far as I know). For example, when NPD and MediaCreate usually release their data, VGC adjusts accordingly if they have to. But in Others region, VGC does not have that. So basically, from what I can see, Others region is pure guesswork?? I'm confused.

so yeah, what exactly do these adjustments mean? do they mean this site can't rely on their own numbers and have to be constantly readjusting to other sources' data? And how do they readjust exactly? do they just take a couple of months and shave off some of their numbers until the match they "real numbers" ?  Isn't that admitting this site numbers are bullshit? There shouldn't be any "adjustments" at all, this looks bad, very bad.

All this means is that vgchartz is open about it's limitations. It's a small tracking service, the size of the samples they use (and the huge population of sold video games) leave a potential for error. The other trackers have more resources available to them, and thus have less potential for error, but they make mistakes sometimes too. VGChartz is open and honest about this, so they make adjustments when they find themselves to have been innaccurate.

As long as people understand that vgchartz is a more limited tracker than the others, there shouldn't be a problem. The numbers are still correct most of the time, and as such are useful and interesting enough. It has the advantage however of being free and transparent compared to the others.

now there's something, as per ioi, adjustments were done to previous estimates up to 3-4 years back. now, if that is the case, wouldn't it mean that vgc's numbers have been way off all this time for the adjuted countries/region?

if i understood correctly, not all countries in EU were adjusted, just a some countries etc. so from there, we can say vgc is very close to what actual sales is to some countries and regions but  suck at others. i'm guessing there aren't a lot of source data from these countries/locations, hence the inacurate estimates.

ioi: You're doing great job.

And for the rest, I see that mainly PS3 fanboys go ape shit over this - so typical.

No.. It means there's been a slight overcalculation in all of them, but on each individual week how much do you think that mattered? Only after building up for more than 3 years has it amounted to something significant.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

it would mean that sales were off by about 5-7k/week (on average obviously) in Others for the last 3-4 years. now, let's go back and revist all those console x beat console y and go away if you would rather discuss statistical ties conversations

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

PS3 overtracked by 1.1 ! Damn.
