@friedtofu:
Many films are in this wider aspect ratio you refer to (either 2.35:1, 2.39:1, or 2.40:1). Out of my HD library of 16 titles, only 4 are 1.85:1 (or 16:9).

The planet earth DVD and the other one similar to it (Blue Planet) is a BBC/Discovery channel produced documentary on the Planet, and on the Seas. The reason they are so captivating is that the camera work is simply amazing. The depths (literally and figuratively) the camera crew went to in order to get great shots is truly astounding. They are the best imagery in HD I've seen PERIOD and most certainly the best imagery I've seen in any documentary. Ever. It's worth the price of admission. Even is SD on my Sony Wega 32", Blue planet is an amazing feast for the eyes.
honestly that was a waste of a purchase, its Toshiba's discontinued low-end pplayer. The A3? A4? is the newest and best.
HD-DVD is still losing every week to Blu-ray so I dont understand why Toshiba continues to take the beating.
Blu-ray will win unless HO-DVDs take hold (Holo-Discs) or even Protein Discs which they might.

Man you Sony guys are hilarious. And I guess if Sony discontinued their oldest Blu Ray model and cleared it for $100 you would tell the masses of people buying it (and yes there would be for sure) that its discontinued, a "waste" and they *should buy the "latest" player instead.
Lmao.
PS360 ftw!
Currently playing..........
Gears of War 2, GTA IV Lost and Damned, Little Big Planet (Yes I said I had no interest but my girl wanted to try it and we did and now Im hooked
)
Wow ssj12, wtf? Way to just rip on something because you aren't a supporter of it. That ps3 you and I bought is just a waste right now too, so what? Not only that, everyone who bought a BD player is going to have to upgrade to a new one once the new discs start coming out, since they wont support the new content and cant play the larger size discs, even with a firmware update...thanks toshiba, for looking out for your customers. Is it possible to leave your bias out of a topic regarding BD or sony for once?
Currently Playing:
PS4 - Killzone:SF and Assasins Creed 4
XBox One: BF4, CoD:Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, Forza 5
Changing channels with my voice: priceless!!!
So I guess Howard Stringer said the format war is a stalemate because he's a Sony hater. Oh wait...
Just scared myself. Updated the firmware via Internet and it seemed like it got stuck on 'step 5/5'. I just waited it out and after what seemed like forever the player turned off.
Im now on version 2.5/T23T (out of the box it was 1.7/something)
So for you guys who havent updated your firmware just be patient when it seems like its frozen! Step 5 took the longest. Id recommened doing it by burning the ISO, less chance for something bad to happen...like if your Comcast decides to crap out in the middle of the update.....yikes.

1. The current gen palyers can pay the 100GB discs. That was announced in a firmware update ages ago.
2. Blu-ray 1.1 duiscs are out and current players can paly them just with reduced features.
3. I'm wasting my time with my PS3? I still havent beaten Folklore or R&C yet... and I bought 5 new Blu-ray movies.
4. If you noticed I used facts that I know of. The fact that Blu-ray is out selling HD-DVD is a well known fact.
5. Frankly I would have suggested the $250 HD-DVD player lol. Might be more expensive but it supports 1080p and higher colour depth.
6. Even I just admited Blu-ray will probably fall to the protein and holo-discs. And I'd be happy as hell to see it happen. 1 holo disc = 1 terabyte. =]

Planet Earth is amazing, I think its the huge amount of knowlegde that it providing to you that attract so many buyers.
@the A2 haters
just because this is a discontinued product doesnt make it a bad product, this player had a very solid review. Stop your BS about the new advanced players, for that price nothing come close at beating it. I wish there were Walmart around my area(bestbuy sold out), I would've purchase one too.
