... Really? So soon after the Gold & Silver DS ones?
Well, even if true, I don't care as I gave up on Pokémon. Unless they refresh the franchise and try something truly new, I won't be getting it.

They should release a 3D pokemon rpg adventure similar to XD on wii
Pokemon heart gold and soul silver are coming out in march for DS in the west, I don't think its wise to release another POKEMON game, considering they already moved up a gen of pokemon with diamond and pearl.
They should stay in a region and develop on it, instead of just recreating the pokemon world constantly, and adding another 100 plus pokemon each gen..

Update (5:00 AM - I really need to go to bed!!): Gamefreak director Junichi Masuda has also announced the new game(s) on his blog, linking to the official announcement below. He says that the game(s) are in development right now and that the work is secret. Obviously, whatever they're working on will be the next main titles in the Pokemon franchise. The moment we've all been waiting for! The official Japanese Pokemon website has announced that a new Pokemon RPG will be released for the DS by the end of the year and that it will for sure feature brand new Pokemon. It's the "first new work" since Diamond and Pearl as the announcement states, meaning it will more than likely be a main game like Red, Gold, Pearl, etc. This will be the first time two generations of Pokemon have been released on the same handheld system, though technically, the first and second generations were both featured on Gameboy (despite one being in color). Bangiras has translated the announcement below:
As posted earlier, the February 15th issue of CoroCoro is supposed to have a "surprising" announcement related to the 13th Pokemon movie, The Ruler of Illusion: Z. Could it be the revealing of a new 5th generation Pokemon? We'll find out soon! |

You're wrong. They stated that the 4th Generation was the PINNACLE of the Pokemon series.
EDIT: Oh, I think that this new '5th' Generation that's coming out is a time-skip in the Pokemon franchise, much like Gold/Silver/Crystal/Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver were 3 years after Red/Blue/Yellow/Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen. So this new 5th Generation must be 3 years after the events of generations 2/4, as generations 2/4 were 3 years after generations 1/3.

4.) This game will likely be in 3D. Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver all run on a 3D engine after all and regression isn't really something I'd expect at this point.

I'm not a hater of the 4th generation, I just lament the fact that each "new" entry in the series is simply the same tired skeletop with some new flesh around and a few behind-the-scenes gameplay tweaks that, while they may tweak the metagame and affect the competitive battling aspect of pokemon, do nothing to vary or innovate the fundamental formula that has been tiredly recycled since the mid-90's.

I hope the formula of towns, gyms, rivals, evil teams and routes is shaken up a bit. The battling is still fun, but the progression of the game is too predictable now - I want to be surprised by a new area or new gym puzzle!
And I hope the new music is made as well as the previous four gens; they ruined the HG/SS music by making it the worst possible compromise of orchestral and 8-bit like. D/P was a great example of where the balance was right - not too orchestral as to be ambient and bland with no melody.
Arg...I'm sorry...Pokemon has gotten too commercial.
I mean, what is this. Gold/Silver isn't even out in the US and they're announcing the new one already? If I bought Soul Silver I wouldn't even be able to enjoy it by the time the next one came out. And this would be 4 (perhaps 5) new main Pokemon games in ONE generation. Pokemon is fun and all, but I don't want to have to start from scratch 4-5 times...
They need to make an MMO and be done with it.
Six upcoming games you should look into:
DQVI, DQMJ2, Nunokuni, and now new Pokemon... DS RPG lineup for 2010 is set... I don't even think DS2 will be announced this year. The momentum from these RPGs would be enough to carry DS into 2011.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
Guess this means DS Tegra is next year at earliest...
