Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Courier

Okay, so I have seen Apple's iPad and I am really upset with it. I mean i was expecting something great, and all it looks like is a huge ipod. I was hoping they would have gone with a new designe for a tablet but I guess they ran out of ideas for a cool look.

The thing I was upset with the most was that there wasn't a pin with it. I wanted something i could write on like paper. I really like how the Microsoft Courier looks and how it works. Two screens is awesome. It has a cool look, i could carry it around in my bookbag and use it like a notebook and write notes in it and not run out of paper. It seems like you could even draw in it and choose any brushes and colors you want. You can get on the internet and find places and share stuff. Though i wouldn't use it for sharing, i'm not a buisness person. I just really like the look of this.

Does anybody have any more information on this? Is anybody following this closely? Is Microsoft still working on this and are they going to release it at some point?

If they made it the price points of the iPad i would pick up a Courier in a second.

Looks great i just wonder how long the performance would last or what are its main components.

I would love a device just like the Courier but not made by MS. Having it made by MS adds a whole host of problems, not the least of which is the fact that they have failed at basically every attempt to make consumer electronics. Given their insane devotion for proprietary formats I'd really, really hate to buy one of these just to learn that in a couple of years tablet-centric development is being done on a platform that MS refuses to be compatible with. Really, though, I'm still shocked that the iPad doesn't already do everything MS is promising that Courier will do. MS will, as they usually do, fail to make good on their promises in a reasonable and timely manner, but the least Apple could do is act as if there may be real competition.

Yeah, I'm not really confident in MS but when i saw this i totally wanted it. I'll just have to wait and see how everything tuns out with it and how MS handles it.

Just wait too, numerous companies like HP, Dell, Sony, MSI, Acer, and even Motorola announced tablets weeks before the iPad. I'm sure we'll get similar tablets to that in no time. The best one I've seen though is the Lenovo tablet laptop which actually is two computers in one.

I want it too, which I do believe is the first time for a MS product.  The thing is, everything they do someone else does better given a little time.  By the time I'm confident that the hardware isn't going to crap out after a year and that software support will be there, there WILL be a serious competitor and it might even be a second generation iPad.  MS practically can't win on this one (which is good for the market AND the consumer), but it'll be an interesting development to watch unfold if they do.

But see the thing is with all of those you have to type in the web address, but with the Courier you can write in the web address. I really think that is cool, it is faster i think, and i hate virtual keyboards.

You mean like the Lenovo X200, which costs $1400-1500?  Almost tripple the cost of the iPad?  Yeah, if you're looking to wait until at least late next year then you might get something of the like at a reasonable price, but then you still have to deal with the fact that the X200 is well over twice as heavy as an iPad which (sad to say) already sounds heavy enough for something I'm going to hold like a book.  If the Courier weighed over three pounds like Lenovo's tablets do, it'd be completely impractical to use it in the way people are going to want to.  Same for iPad.  The weight of these devices is extremely important for how well they will sell, and the netbook manufacturers that think they can add a touchscreen to what they've already got are going to be shocked if they think otherwise.

Nobody else is interested or knows anything more?

i've been interested in that for awhile, no lie i love the cool factor of the apple tablet but it was very disappointing, felt like a very lazy attempt at it. i find the iphone more useful whats the value to that of an existing ipod/iphone owner. i just dont see it ima wait a yr since they r obviously gna release a better version every year
