Crazymann said: Ha ha... this list is an absolute joke. How can a game with lower critical reception and (arguably) popular support than other games in it's own series be the best game of all time? Plus, this list is far too heavily skewed toward newer games.
GRAPHICS are improving, but to argue that gameplay is evolving is sheer opinion at best and highly fallacious at worst.
Then again, it is Famitsu after all, and the list does seemingly legitimize their recent rash of "perfect" 40's. |
You realize this is by readers right?

Yes, I do. Convenient though isn't it?
Besides, nobody has been able to answer the main point. That is, people have short memories! I find it humorous that people say that I said FF13 was trash when I said nothing of the sort - only that there were FF's that scored better and - I project - sold better than this one. I haven't played FF13, and - unlike some folks on here - I don't diss games that I haven't played enough to have an opinion.
For those saying that this poll was "honest" because it didn't include a bunch of "tired classics" <paraphrase>, well, there are many elements of those games that have yet to be equalled in any newer game. Graphics of course get better, but there is plenty of value in those games - not mere nostalgia.
A couple examples....
(1.) Tetris is one of the most pure gaming experiences in existance. There are literally hundreds of iterations of it, and it is known by millions. Is it not worthy because it has primative graphics?
(2.) While it is only an opinion, I am not the only one that feels MGS1 to be the pinnacle of the series. Where is it?
So what we essentially get from this list is that new is tantamount to better, and I (for one) do not believe it for an instant. This list is no better than any other "top X games of all time list." In fact, its age bias makes it laughable. There is a difference between "good" and "all time".
