^ Im not sure I agree there are a lot of games for the iphone "worth playing". The issue is there is so many games "throwing paper in trashcans" out there that if your lazy and don't take the time to navigate the store you wont find them. All I know is I can get a very good action rpg that last me hours for 3 bucks and delivered instantly to my phone. I love it

That's my whole point.

The public is lazy. The service is clogged. This is a very similar occurence on the wii, which many people agree to.

Or maybe the public doesn't have the same interests as you. Some of the smartest, hard working people I know can get a few minutes of enjoyment playing a simple game.

Thats the thing though. I wasn't into those throw the paper in the trashcan type games till I got an iphone. They are fun to just pick up and play for about 5 mins or so and put down. The system also has games that you can invest some serious time into and get great satisfaction. To me its not clogged just varied for everyones needs. I think it works perfectly for everyone thats why its such a success.

All games are fun to a point. My point was that, when the games can consist of something as menial and simple as throwing a piece of paper into a can, it opens up potential for thousands of different games each with their own little idiosyncrasies. Now, yes, that's a good thing. That's a great thing. However, when you then go in and try to make something more intricate, you can easily get shot down because the variety is just so huge that whatever the consumer wants, already exists. They wanted Doom, it's there. They wanted Doom in third person, it's there. Doom in 2D, there. ReverseDoom, there. Doom in watercolors, there. Doom point and click adventure, Doom coloring book.

When you have a market who already has anything they want tailored to their needs, why even try to make something more? Why make Doom 4, when DoomTouch is good enough? That's not a complaint, it's what the market looks like.

It will not be the market leader ipod/iphone is. It will sell like the other macbooks and various net-books on the market. However, for its price, it will sell less than other net-books as it offers less.

The only feature difference that makes it somewhat desirable is the touch screen. But, Asus and others have already tentatively shown similar devices that will be more robust at better prices.

As for gaming, it won't be anymore influencial than other laptops. iPhone is a bigger base as that will remain be the biggest platform.

? I'm not sure what you are trying to defend or clarify here. The post I was responding to, was in regard to publishers making more money on the Iphone than on the DS or PSP combined. This has nothing to do with the "simplicity" of a game, but rather the simplicity of making the game/selling it.

You shouldn't get involved in a conversation if you don't know what the conversation is about.

What are you talking about? The revenue of the highest grossing iphone games make the Virtual Console look good, let alone retail DS and PSP games...

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

As for gaming, many publishers are already making more money from Apple App Store games than they are they are from the DS or PSP. I am sure this will only expand with the addition of the iPad.

Has there been any news on the 3d hardware in the iPad? i saw the screen was 4x the resolution of the ipod, but saw nothing about the graphics hardware.

I thought I wrote something about the first games making a shit-ton of cash and then everyone flocks to the system which clogs it, but I can't seem to find it. In any case, that is what happened. It's hard to make money on the Iphone games, and it's going to be even harder to justify making an expensive game for the iphone. That message was in my posts somewhere, but I guess I wasn't too clear about it.

The reasons why it is hard to make money is because of the competition and variety. Combined, the games make a lot of money, but individually the market is more suited to indie developers.

Oh, I apologize, I misunderstood misread your post. My bad.

I think there is some real potential for RTS gaming, however that is not enough for me to purchase one. Movies I will continue to watch on my much larger tv, books I will continue to read on my kindle which has much, much better battery life, and I will continue to to browse the web on my PC, which can multitask.

I think the problem Apple ran into here was along the lines of "jack of all trades, master of none."

Okay, I've read through some of the articles, I've looked at it a bit (already I know more than Apple's average consumer). What's so great about this? Seems like a gimped MacBook. Like, seriously. Does Apple really think that people will just buy anything they release in big numbers? Like Apple can yell, "HEY, A NEW PRODUCT FROM YOUR FAVORITE COMPANY, BUY IT!" Am I missing something here? And why is it that Apple can convince people to buy everything for ridiculous prices?

Alright, I'm done. Maybe someone can explain this whole thing to me.

It's Apple.  Yes.  No.  Mind-control beams.

In the begging I was thinking you mispelled ipod, now I'm hyped

Overpriced crap.
