Forums - Sony Discussion - IGN UK reviews MAG (7.6/10)

Forget about the IGN review for a moment, and put aside fanboyism and alligiances for a sec,,,

in my book, if a game (MAG) is heavily hyped by its publisher (sony) as a huge EXCLUSIVE that makes you buy a PS3, and if this game receives reviews in the 70s and 80s, this this is an EPIC Fail in my Book on the part of ZIPPER an Sony, add to that that a lot of gamers nowadays read reviews before buying games !

i am not judging the game, so dont shoot me ok ? :), since all the reviews are not out yet, but mediocre reviews will lead to mediocre sales and generate a felling among gamers that its MEDIOCRE

For a "mediocre" game, it has some solid pre-orders. If the game scores in the 80s and has good word of mouth, I would hardly classify that as an EPIC FAIL. Refer to SOCOM's reviews and fanbase.

80 isn't a bad score by any stretch of the imagination and even if it does settle around 80 that doesn't mean it still isn't worth getting a PS3 for. PS3 is the only console that offers a game of this size.

It is worth getting one if you wish to play something unique like this.

Not everything is based on reviews.

It's on 76 (metacritic) after the first day of the reviews! that is not good for a Sony exclusive that Zipper kept boosting about, even today they said MAG is not possible on the 360 (see CVG) due to the "powerz of the c3ll", why do they say silly things like that when the game is getting poor reviews on the first day!?!? shocking!

And also, as you know, Metacritic scores normally go down as more reviews get added, it hardly ever goes higher, 76 at the moment, that could easily drop into the 60's within a few days, not saying it will but it could.

Socom, a game with a 63 or so Metascore and declared as a fail yet has quite possibly the most dedicated userbase on PSN.

Remember too that these scores on based on the initial game. Socom these days is nothing close to what it was when it was first reviewed and I am positive that MAG will be the exact same way. It will get great support from Zipper and over time it will only get better and better.

What more could a gamer ask for than that from the people making their games?

It's a 78 at the moment actually and if you read some of these reviews you will see that some are based on the beta and not the retail release. Servers only went up today.

Some of the other reviews that are based on the retail release I believe were done due to an event held by Zipper for these reviewers to play.

Also as I said read the reviews. If a 78 score that hits on graphics and awards the gameplay is considered bad than this gen's gamers are lost. My opinion anyways.

They also said it wasn't possible as well because of how LIVE is set up. I doubt P2P can support this at all.

They also asked someone to prove them wrong, which would need to happen before you can even try to debunk what they said. Huxley was supposed to be around half of MAG (120 players) and I am sure the 360 version got canned or put on hold indefinitely.

I only ask that people read the content and not just the end score. The end scores never match up correctly with what it written in the reviews since it is based on so many things. Look at Lost Odyssey for example, the game is praised by many yet according to your standards it isn't really good.

Am I the only one that doesn't care about MAG, seriously, Sony has many more interesting titles coming down the pipe.

I totally agree with you. This is the problem with gamers and the industry these days. It's all about the scores, not what the reviewers have to say. Most reviewers have actually postponed their reviews until they experience all there is to MAG in the retail release. I'm also sure some reviews released now will be adjusted.

Well, the best marketing now is "this is the best game of the genre" or "this is an incredible exclusive for the Y platform".

But seriously, 6.8? This game doesn't seems to be bad.

I think TheSixthAxis will be re-reviewing the game as well as one of the scores I linked in this thread.

Also the reviewers didn't postpone their reviews, Sony put an embargo on reviews so that the reviewers would actually have to play the retail release along with the users who purchased the title that way they can give a better review, but unfortunately it seems many ignored it.

Glad you agree with me that too many people worry about the score and not the actual review itself. This is why I don't like using metascores in arguments.
