Forums - Sony Discussion - IGN UK reviews MAG (7.6/10)

Not too keen on this kind of review as it seems to be off the Beta. Granted I doubt the game will change that much, but still, I want reviews of the full game online on the full servers and not extrapolations from Beta play.

More of a principal as I probably won't be getting MAG just because it's not my cup of tea rather than because I'm nuts for the game.

I tried the Beta and I think it's a hard title to review, really. For example, scoring graphics should really take into account the fact they have to look a certain way to get 256 players on there, and the reviews I've read seem to imply it works just the reviewer would prefer X where X seems more suited to a smaller game - i.e. the reviewers do seem to be struggling with comparing it to other titles for reference which is tricky as there is little like it on consoles so far as I am aware.

I think it'll find it's audience, and god help any late joiners is my guess, 'cause the good teams are probably going to dominate over time.

Fascinating concept I think, though.

This is my fear. I don't want to grab it too late and get raped, but nobody on my friend's list has it.

Actually, one other point about the IGN review (heck I'm now validating it while saying I thought it shouldn't be based on the Beta) is that you can always gets kills in bigger matches.  With so much going on there's always someone, even someone very good, who'll be looking the wrong way when you spot them.

In many ways what I did find facinating in the Beta was how like combat it felt (as I imagine it).  Real sense of danger from every angle and luck has a part to play.  Perhaps not the most appealing aspect for gamers who want smaller maps/numbers where the focus becomes purely about map knowledge and skill, but definately more realistic.

If you're interested your best is probably to get in earlier (maybe see how the initial sales go) and look to get your friends online over time.

Although I decided it wasn't for me I'm going to keep an eye on it - depending upon how it matures I might being a late joiner myself.  I'm patient enough to wait in cover for the guy looking the other way...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I disliked the MAG beta so in effect it seems IGN once again agrees with my tastes

thats why I like IGN a lot!

Snap! I wasn't impressed with the beta at all, the reviews confirm my thoughts exactly: MAG isn't very good

pretty bad considering all the hype, i'm expecting Heavy Rain as well to get similar scores.

The initial sales are what I am watching as well, I want to be sure that getting a big game started will not be a struggle although I am almost positive that it won't.

I am also a guy who doesn't mind waiting in cover or having the task of being the guy defending the marker point while everyone else is in the middle of a large scale gun fight. I am one who would rather have the big "W" at the end of the match than be the guy who racks up the most kills.

Everyone does their part in this game and I really like that. I had one game where many people on my team had 30-35 kills each and around 8-10 deaths. I felt cool being the guy with 18 kills and 0 deaths.

I was a headshot master in that round. Unfortunately that was my best game, I am lucky to end up with 10-15 kills in a single game with around 10 deaths. The Valor map was kicking my rear end all over the place.

Forget about the IGN review for a moment, and put aside fanboyism and alligiances for a sec,,,

in my book, if a game (MAG) is heavily hyped by its publisher (sony) as a huge EXCLUSIVE that makes you buy a PS3, and if this game receives reviews in the 70s and 80s, this this is an EPIC Fail in my Book on the part of ZIPPER an Sony, add to that that a lot of gamers nowadays read reviews before buying games !

i am not judging the game, so dont shoot me ok ? :), since all the reviews are not out yet, but mediocre reviews will lead to mediocre sales and generate a felling among gamers that its MEDIOCRE

^This!

80 isn't a bad score by any stretch of the imagination and even if it does settle around 80 that doesn't mean it still isn't worth getting a PS3 for. PS3 is the only console that offers a game of this size.

It is worth getting one if you wish to play something unique like this.

Not everything is based on reviews.

Also guys, instead of just looking at the score and trying to poke fun or downplay the game take the time to read these reviews that have been put out so far.

Destructoid for example awarded it an 8/10 with the deduction mainly coming just from the graphics alone. A lot of these "low reviews" say wonderful things about the gameplay, which happens to be the part of a game that really matters.

A good example is Dragon Age. The game wasn't a graphical beast either by any stretch but the gameplay and the options it provided is what makes it shine.

Bullshit, absolute trash. Sony will hype the hell out of any game of theirs that isn't rubbish, and since Sony don't do shovelware, that's all of them! They will hype in a hope that it will increase sales, its your fault for being so gullable. Do you own research, play the game beta, read previews.......and if it doesn't live up to them then its a fail (Haze).

Btw, I haven't tried MAG and can't be arsed to so I dunno what its like.
