Forums - Sales - Will RE The Umbrella Chronicles suffer because of RE4.

I can see SMG hampering the sales of pretty much all games this year (people who're only buying one game will probably get SMG and nothing else unless they're a hardcore RE or lightgun fan), but RE4 will probably be a positive factor. The only RE game on the Wii so far has been a smash hit, and gamers have a very positive image of the franchise in their heads.

It's also the first lightgun game in absolutely ages, so it should get attention from fans of the genre, as well as people who've been going "omg the Wii is awesome for lightgun games, I'm buying the first one that's coming out for it!!!" since the pointer feature was announced.

I'm pretty optimistic that this game will do a million worldwide, although I won't be incredibly shocked if it doesn't, as I'm not sure how well games of this genre generally sell.

Capcom expected to ship 420k RE4 Wii edition by march 2008 and already shipped a million. They also expect to ship 620k RE:UC by march 2008 so my guess is RE:UC will perform at least as well as Capcom expected it to and probably even better but I do not know if it will perform as well as RE4.

I hope that is the case as it would show Capcom that:

1. Wii owners are willing to buy RE games.
2. We prefer RE4 type games over light-gun games.

And this would bode well for other RE4 style games to come out on the Wii, wether that is RE5, remakes of RE0-3 in a RE4 style or a new spin-off.

"I do not suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it"

Resident evil: Umbrella chronicles is gonna sell really good! It looks to be a good game. Only thing of which im not sure is the non-existance of the 'over the shoulder' camera. The fact that THAT specifically was in RE4 made the game Brilliant. That, and only that is my only doubt! I however expect this game to reach AT LEAST platinum status (that is, 1 million sold Ww). 1) RE4: Wii edition has shown there is huge interest in Resident evil games on the Wii. Over 1 million for a port of a 2 year old (though brilliant) game is a HUGE succes. 2) RE: UC binds ALL editions of the RE series together and throws light on ALL the answers left open during the series. It takes you through 0-4, beyond and between. 3) People who have played the Wii version of RE:4 are going to be hyped about this one! That i know for a fact because Resident evil 4 was just THAT GOOD! And all my friends are gonna buy RE:UC (I myself am not sure if im gonna a.t.m. Just for the simple fact that there are just TOO many good games coming for the system). 4) Mario Galaxy cannot and WILL NOT hamper sales on this one. Just for the fact that the two are completely opposites of eachother! Zombie shooter in first-person with a deep storyline compared to a brilliant Platformer full of colour and happyness (Just to make it clear, there's nothing wrong with bright colours and happiness)... Only thing that might be ~mwah~ could be 1st week numbers. (At around... 130k-180k I think for America. But, as RE4 has shown, it will have great legs... And RE:4's legs will hold throughout the Christmas-season just for the simple fact that Wii sales are gonna be up... And RE: UC will not suffer from RE:4 because RE4 has already been out for about 1/2 year.

if resident evil UC gets average reviews of 80 or less then it will fail, since RE4 is only $30 and is extremely well reviewed. $30 for an excellent game or $50 for an average one? UC will do well but RE4 will hurt sales regardless, just how much is the question.

I think SMG will hamper first week sales, cause well, everyone wants SMG.

But all the people who delay buying RE:UC because of SMG will get it for Christmas. Here in Europe since Zack and Wiki got delayed there is pretty much a 3 way toss up between hardcore Wii games now; SMG, RE:UC and MoH:H2. I know there is alot more competition in America, but still, I think RE:UC is probably shaping up to be second best unless NiGHTs turns out to be awesome.

If you're looking for a flop I suggest you look at Soul Calibur Legends :).

I think REWii will improve sales of RE:UC.
REWii shows that the gameplay is awesome with the Wiimote. Those that are iffy will definitely get it since it's proven to work.

so long as they have a screen calibration option like in ghost squad, they'll get at least one sale.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Whaha, u bought ghost Squad?!... Wthell is wrong with u?! SMG is coming out...

THE NETHERLANDS

It's going to suffer because it's most likely going to be a slightly above average to mediocre game. Most reviews will most likely be somewhere between 6.5-8.0 Nobody should care about a garbage spinoff point and shoot RE game when the real sequel is coming out in due time.
